Creature Languages, 02/06, Period 3

"Hello.

I hope you all enjoyed speaking with Racso on Thursday. You showed a nice grasp of conversational Rat.

For class today, I would like for you to pair up with someone you have not worked with in this class before and attempt to carry on a conversation in Rat about the events of this past weekend.

I am told there was singing. You do not need to sing in Rat.

Take notes on your conversations, as they will feed into a group project we will begin on Thursday.

I will be holding office hours this afternoon should you have questions.

Paige smiles, "sure, I erm kinda missed the last rat lesson, so this could be interesting."

She looks over her vocab sheet and hopes for the best, //so do you sing this weekend?//

Uh, //one time at the bang place?// Vala frowns, figuring that's as close as she's gonna get to "gun range".

//You have dog here too?// she asks, looking down at Cash.

Paige nods and tries to think how to explain, it's difficult enough in human let alone in rat.

//He's Home's I am looking after it until writer gets back// she says looking very unsure of what the hell she's just said

Vala thinks about that one for a moment, then remembers where she'd seen the dog before. "Oh!" She smiles, working it out.

//Famous-writer gone this time?//

Paige considers what Vala's just said and shakes her head //he will be back, not sure when. Today maybe//

Vala nods. //Goodness. I hear happy students about him.//

Paige thinks for a long time before she's able to answer, rat it appears is harder than Cat was.

//he has talents of many. students looking to receive// Geoff" yes she says Geoff cos she's pretty sure there is no rat word for Geoff, she also got various other words wrong.

Vala considers that one for a while too, but then figures she got the gist of it. Then she frowns, trying to come up with something else to say. Looking at the vocabulary list, she figures food would be the easiest topic.

//I am hungry. You like to eat gouda or cheddar or bread crumbs?//

Paige almost laughs, they don't seem to have a word for poet but all the cheeses are right there!

//I like cheddar best, bread crumbs are...dry. You like best?//

Yeah, rats seem to have foodstuffs pretty well covered.

//I like brie and also pie.//

//yes pie is good. there is good pie in town//

((and I must flee to bed so it's so late here it's officially morning))

//Yes good pie at Jeff, God of Biscuits//

Vala does a double-take, but yes, there is actually a direct rat translation for the store. She shrugs. It made a certain sense... if the local rats were going to bother with any place in town, that would be it.

(NP! Was fun. ;-)

((it was indeed, and I notice the direct translation included 'Jeff' not 'Geoff' so Paige was totally within her rights to say his name in English! *is going to bed, not really!*))
