Detention: February 4, 2006

Grissom pins a list to the door of the danger shop, with the following three names.

Lisa Cuddy
Lilly Kane
Jaye Tyler

"Good morning, Ms. Cuddy, Ms. Kane, and Ms. Tyler. Now, let's be honest, none of us want to be here today. However, it would imprudent to waste this opportunity.

I'm going to ask you to sign in, and I've provided some thankfully bug-free breakfast for you, if you're hungry. You're going to need the energy, so I suggest eating something.

I'd also like you to put on the jumpsuit and goggles I have provided. Sorry about the jumpsuits being all men's extra-large, and from a prison warehouse, but it was more cost-effective that way."

"Now, on to our first activity...

[OOC: Jaye, give me ten to get the crazy OCD comments up! Done, and done. Yay. :) Detention will get out today in game around dinner time, but we can play it for as long as you'd like. ]

There is a sign-in sheet next to a small bundle with each girl's name on it, containing her fancy-pants new outfit. There is also coffee, orange juice, iced tea, muffins, and bagels. Suit up, and eat up.

Lilly takes an iced tea, and then looks at her jumpsuit. Her expression can best be described as 'Oh, hell noes."

Lisa signs in, wishing that she had brought her own damn scrubs so that she didn't look like a convict.

She picks at a muffin warily, and then gives up, slipping the goggles around her neck with a sigh.

Activity One: Slime!

Grissom asks the girls to follow him over to a long table, with several mixing bowls and materials laid out on it.

"Yes, we're going to make slime (http://www.scitech.org.au/discover/experiments_slime.html). Be careful with the Borax until it is properly mixed, and follow all the instruction I have provided. You'll notice you have three bowls each. I want you to mix up three different batches of different colors and consistencies. You'll see why later."

Lilly looks at the materials, and immediately poo-poos.

"Hey, Gil, do you have gloves or something? I am never going to get food coloring out of my cuticles."

Lisa stands off to one side and makes her slime, being careful with exact measurements and maybe taking additional notes.

Activity Two: Slime Art!

"On the floor I am more at ease, I feel nearer, more a part of the painting, since this way I can walk around in it, work from the four sides and be literally `in' the painting. Jackson Pollock," Grissom says as he hands Lilly a baseball bat, Jaye a golf club, and Lisa a tire iron.

He smiles when he reveals three large canvasses set up against a far wall. "You each have three dummy heads, that can be filled with your slime. After you have completed that task, pull your goggles down and use the weapons I have given you to create your own masterpiece. Swing away at the dummy heads, and they'll send your 'paint' onto the canvas. You'll notice your splatter patterns will depend on the velocity of your swing, the viscosity of the slime, and other factors. Keep an eye out not only artistically, but scientifically."

"And please, hand in your work (http://artpad.art.com/artpad/painter/) when you are done."

Lilly goes nuts on her dummy, letting out a Xena-esque funny little war cry.

And her work doesn't look like a little lion, really. Especially as ArtPad won't let me save the damn thing and then erased all my work, and I say *strangle* and will keep trying!!!

For lunch, there are pizza and sandwich fixings, along with water and soda. There's also a jar of what appear to be chocolate clusters.

Those have extra protein, if you know what I mean.

Activity Three/Part One: ROACHES, YAYS!

"The Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, Gromphadorhina portentosa." Grissom smiles wide as he pulls a dropcloth off of three small tanks, each containing a cockroach labeled with a name.



"Now, this may be your most important decision all day. You need to pick your horse.

Although your new pet is wingless, they are quite mobile and can climb the sides of the container. So be careful. They've been fed and provided water, but engaging in a relationship with your roach will be to your advantage later on this afternoon. I'll give you all a few minutes to decide, and spend time with your new friend."

Jaye raises her hand. "Um. Engage in a relationship? With a roach?... What kind of relationship? Cuz I have limits."

Lilly grabs her tank, and actually doesn't look too grossed out by the bugs. Being dead kind of gave her a new perspective on them. Also, that big, blue bug guy is pretty nice.

"What up, Petey Pablo?" she asks, hitting the class with a fingernail until Pete starts to hiss.

"Oh, calm down, I'm just saying hello. We need to get you fired up, I think."

She shakes the tank a few times and smiles. "Excellent."

"So I'm stuck with Hortense? Great," Lisa mutters.

She takes the tank and places it as far away from her as she possibly can while not getting yelled at by Grissom, and waits patiently for the next scary-ass task.

Activity Three/Part Two: Roach Maze!

Grissom provides tools and materials for the next project on a workbench.

"Each of you need to build a simple maze (http://hereandabove.com/maze/mazeorig.form.html) for your roach. I then have sheets of plastic to put over the top, so that Hortense, Franklin, and Pete can not escape before our big finale.

You need to get your roach through the maze before we can proceed. Good luck!"

Lisa quickly constructs her maze out of cardboard and superglue, with her goggles still on, and then plops Hortense down into it.



Of course, Hortense gets stuck after less than 10 seconds and Lisa is reduced to banging on the plastic and yelling at a bug.

"Okay - Lisa, Lilly, and Jaye. This is the moment I know you've been waiting for."

He doesn't even say that sarcastically. What a dork.

"You'll notice that I have set up a race track, in the style of the World Championships in Australia. Please bring your roaches to the starting line, and we will soon be declaring a winner of... Detention. There is a trophy, and of course glory, hanging in the balance here. Do whatever you need to do, except for hurt your opponent's roach in anyway.

Any questions?"
