Driver's Ed, Feb 1st, Period 8

The Danger Shop is currently programmed to resemble a small movie theatre. There's popcorn and cans of Coke for students to take as they sign the attendance sheet.

"Today? Easy class. We're going to watch several educational films, and that's all."

Tommy turns down the lights and starts the first DVD.

Archie helps himself to some popcorn and, dubiously, a can of Coke, signs in, and settles down to watch.

Ivanova signs in and snags herself a sugary carbonated beverage. It was her little reward for a very odd day. No popcorn, though. It got stuck in her teeth.

Togusa signed in, grabbed popcorn and a coke.

Any small measure of reassurance Archie's gained over the past week's worth of car research in the library? Completely and utterly dashed by these films. It's ridiculous, really, since he's certainly seen more gruesome deaths than this. But there were usually large, heavy cannon-fired projectiles involved there. Not just a harmless-looking automobile.

He does think the narration is laughable, though.

"Hey," Ivanova leaned over at one point and jabbed a finger at the screen. "Isn't that Craig T. Neilson doing the narration?"

[[I have seen this. Captain Archer made a guest appearance.]]

"I have no idea who that is," Archie replied distantly, still staring at the screen in morbid fascination.

[[HEE.]]

Ivanova glanced at him, then back at the screen, her brow furrowed. "Am I missing something? Am I watching a driver's ed instructional video and you get to watch 'Don't Go Into The House III'?"

The joke, unfortunately, went right over Archie's head. "Whatever it is I'm watching, I can only hope no one intended this for morale purposes, as it would be sadly failing at that. This is supposed to be educational?"

"That usually is the primary function of videos shown in school," she replied, deadpan. "That or the teacher is just too fagged to sentence properly. But this one appears to be entirely educational." She shrugged. "Less demoralising than the ones we were shown in flight training. Those explosions were pretty impressive."

"Videos were nowhere near invented where I came from. I find myself wondering whether or not we would have benefited from them in training," replied Archie with a smile. "I'm tempted to say not, though one never knows if actual depictions of limbs getting blown off by cannonballs would have been a deterrent to young would-be sailors in my time."

He turned his attention back to the screen for a few moments. "Well, I'll say this: it certainly drives home the fact that what we're learning to do can be lethal if handled incorrectly. Of course, that's true for quite a lot of things, isn't it?"

"Most things," Ivanova said, nodding. "A person can fall and break something stepping out of their house which the mun has never done. Honest. Cars are just a way to court disaster more efficiently."

Togusa cocked his head to the side and watched. Most cars in his time were quite resilant. And they want him to drive one of these death traps?

Broots pondered about what would happen if a Zombie got in the way of a car. He also pondered if anyone would notice if he fell asleep.

Archie's facial expression is completely innocent as he comes up to Tommy after class. "So, about this giant pizza rumor."

"Is it true?"

No, he's not grinning deviously. Why do you think that?
