"Wow you've really taken to being a teacher haven't you? I figured you'd be happy to make money as an author, it is what you are."

"And yeah I'll do that, I'm generally about," she waves her hands around, "somewhere!"

Geoff laughs. "I was only joking, Paige. I still spend most of my time when I'm not preparing for class writing. And I really do think this was a good idea of yours, for the Valentine's Day poems."

Still grinning, he adds, "I'm generally in my office all day on Monday and Tuesday, but you probably already know that. And actually, since you and Inara have been taking care of the shop, I've been spending a little extra time here, just for a quiet place to work. And I do appreciate that, by the way. The job you're doing minding the shop."

Paige blushes slightly, "Oh right of course sorry and I'm glad you liked the idea I thought it made sense nothing says Valentine's Day like poetry."

"And as for looking after the shop, well I need the money to be honest and I like it there, it's interesting."

"I'm glad you find it interesting. I know it can get a little lonely there sometimes, when there aren't any customers. If you're ever there and things get too quiet, just close up and go home, all right? Better that than drive yourself crazy starting at an empty room. And don't forget, you can take commissions, or put up examples, of your own work as well."

She shrugs, "actually kinda like it when it's quiet too, it gives me chance to practise my painting, and Michael got me a book about Japanesse ink drawing which I'd not really had chance to look at and yeah I might do that when I have a piece I think's good enough, thanks."

"Japanese ink drawing? That sounds interesting. Let me know when you feel like you've got something you'd like to show, and we'll put it up. And honestly? I could use something to brighten up the place. So I may buy a piece or two from you myself."

He cocks his head and thinks. "You know...I should put the cranes up that our poetry class made last term. An ink drawing or two might be nice to add to that. What do you think?"

She nods, "I got a piece done on Friday before the storm fit, maybe I'll bring that for you to put up and you know if you're lucky I might just give you a piece on the house, as a thank you, for well everything really."

Paige considers how badly her ink drawing have gone so far but nods, "Yeah that'd probably look good, get kinda an Oriental theme going? That might look cool, I'll try to drop some stuff off for you to look at some time, ~~when the mun's googled~~ see what you think."

"Well, I'll tell you what. I'm willing to buy a couple pieces, but I'll accept a gift of one if that's what you want to do, and I appreciate it. Bring them by, whenever you feel they're ready. What I don't take to put up here, you can hang in the shop with a price tag, and see if anyone bites."

She nods, "Thank you Geoff I really appreciate that, plus it gives me more a reason to get back into my art, it's seemed a little bit of waste of time given everything else I've had to do lately. Pip's teaching me how to shoot!" she tells him with a slightly wary look.

Geoff nods. "Not a bad idea. Marty taught me, and although I hope I never have to use it, around here it seems like a good thing to be prepared."

Of course, he hasn't been the gun range in months, but at least if push comes to shove he'll be able to avoid shooting someone he doesn't intend to shoot.

"He's teaching me all sorts actually, for well stuff in the future," she says with a frown, "I figured I should take advantage of the special talents of some of the people here, if you know what I mean."

"I absolutely agree, Paige. The world is dangerous, and this place seems to be a magnet for the stranger kinds of danger especially. Just...be careful."

He gives her a smile that says he probably trusts Paige to be able to take care of herself.

She wishes she could help him Fandom sounds like the most safe in the world compared to what she's going to have to deal with soon, what she already had dealt with.

She forces a smile, "I know," she replies softly, "and I will be, for as long as I can at least."

The smile's noted and he's right of course, she has to be able to look after herself, she's a bloody Charmed One!

Geoff nods. "It's all any of us can do. There's no point in making promises you can't keep, and I know better than most how little good intentions can be worth, once the world decides what it wants to do with you. And for what it's worth, I'm here if you ever need anything."

She frowns again, "I'm not I like what the world has planned for me, but there's not much I can do about it, other than be prepared.." she swallows hard feeling a bit like she's going to cry, she didn't think about her future unless she really had to, she was actually pretty terrified about the whole thing.

"It's worth a lot actually Geoff, I'm glad we're still friends."

"I'm glad too, Paige."

Geoff reaches over and takes her hand. "Look. Don't worry about what the world has in store for you. If you can't change it, then there's no point in letting it get to you. Enjoy the things you can control, and take the rest as it comes."

She nods slowly and squeezes his hand gently. "Yeah you're right, I guess I should just enjoy my life before it starts and hope for the best." or at least to not be killed by demons on her first day.

Looking a little concerned, Geoff answers, "It's a good philosophy to live by, Paige. But...maybe try expecting the best rather than just hoping for it?"

He raises an eyebrow and grins. "You'll be a little more likely to convince the rest of the world you deserve it, if you believe it yourself."

She smiles to assure him she's okay, maybe just over thinking things a little too much.

"are you sure you're an author not a philiosopher Geoff?" she jokes, totally not addressing what he's just said, if she expects the best she'll be disappointed, she might be optimistic, but she knows she's going to have to kill demons for the rest of her life, there is no best in that situation really

"Can't I be both?" Geoff answers grinning. He can see she's still not entirely put at ease by his advice though, and the grin turns into a reassuring smile instead.

"I know you'll be all right. You're a strong woman, and so are your sisters. I know I wouldn't want to go up against the three of you."

She laughs then, "course you can, you can be anything you want, you're a man of many talents and you know not to mess with my sisters, you're obviously very very smart and you're right I'll be okay. I just need to reminded of that sometimes, so thanks."

"We all do, Paige," he answers with a wry smile, thinking about how much he's needed that reminder himself lately.

"Is everything not okay with you?" she asks concerned about him now.

"It's getting better. I've had some friends leave lately -- a lot of friends, since around the holiday, but someone very important to me just recently. It's been...hard, I miss all of them." He smiles. "I'm doing all right. I, uh...have sort of been seeing someone recently, and..." He shrugs. "That's helped. Don't worry about it, really. I'm good."

"Yeah Ben and Michael leaving kinda shook me too, things change though don't they and I guess they all did what they thought was best for them. I'm glad you're okay though, cos you know that whole oveprotective thing I have going on? Well it's still there, for all my friends." Not that there were that many anymore.
