Since Parker told me I could couldn't seem to get her act together, Marty opened up the gun range and did a once-over the weapons locker to make sure that everything was in order.

He then made sure that the safety rules were up:

SAFETY RULES:

· TREAT ALL GUNS AS IF THEY WERE LOADED

· KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO FIRE

· BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT’S BEYOND

· ALWAYS WEAR HEARING AND EYE PROTECTION

· NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR DRUGS BEFORE OR WHILE SHOOTING.

· CHECK IN ALL WEAPONS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE RANGE.

Breaking any of these rules means an immediate visit with Mr. Smith, or the guy with the funny hat.

Janet waved to Marty and Sam as she checked over her 9mm and loaded it. She had her med kit stashed in a corner of the room where she could keep an eye on it easily. She put on her ear protectors, then started firing at a target.

She'd forgotten about her bruised ribs until the recoil jolted through her. Damn it! She winced and bit the inside of her cheek hard to keep from exclaiming.

Sam noticed Janet's wince. "You okay?," she mouthed, knowing Janet couldn't hear her with the ear protection anyway.

Janet nodded, then grinned ruefully at Sam. She took a quick break to take some more ibuprofin, making sure her gun was unloaded and left well out of reach while she did so.

Then she went and started shooting again. She mostly hit her target, but she was definitely out of practice. Time to start spending a few hours a week down here.

Sam raised a brow, but resumed shooting. Maybe Janet had just slept wrong the night before. Or on the piles of papers in Daniel's office.
