Dr. Pierson's Office Hours

Perhaps foolishly, Methos made his way through the thickening snow to attend his office hours.

Coffee is appreciated.

Janet had gotten tired of the sight of her dorm room. And she was bored. So she'd finally gotten out of bed, grimaced at the pain in her ribs, and gotten dressed in several layers of clothing to head over to her TA meeting with Methos.

"Why the hell did you bother coming in today?" she asked, closing the door of his office behind her.

"Because I have an overdeveloped sense of responsibility?" Methos asked. He rose and came to her side, one hand going under her elbow. "Should you be up?" His eyes were serious and worried.

"They're bruised ribs," said Janet, rolling her eyes at him. "Not that you asked when I dropped off my excuse note to you. I've been bandaged up, I haven't jostled myself, and I'm going absolutely stir-crazy." She shrugged. "So I thought I'd drop by and see how you were doing."

Methos waves a hand at his desk. "Grading homework. Writing lectures for next week. Contemplating getting a jump on writing the exams for the week after that. Boring stuff."

"Incredibly boring," said Janet. "We're having exams already? Do you want me to organize a review session next week?" It wasn't as if she hadn't gone through the extra reading and the regular reading, after all.

Methos nods. "That was my plan for Tuesday after next. If you would put that together, I would be most appreciative. Now, can I ask you a question ~~that will segue into NFB stuff~~?"

"Lunch hour or after school hours?" asked Janet. "I'd rather go for after school hours, just in case we take longer than an hour." She looked puzzled. "Of course you can ask me a question. What?" NFB away! *points to new subject line*

"Well, I was going to give you the class period, but if you want to organize something for after school for those who feel they need more help, I'd be more than happy to open the classroom or this office." Methos tapped his fingers on his desk, then sighed, stood up, and came around to lean a hip on the edge of the desk nearest Janet. "I wanted to ask... you have a great deal of... esoteric knowledge about ancient Egypt. In some places it exceeds mine. Mine comes from being there -- on and off." Very quietly, he asks, "How do you know what you know?"

"Oh, hell. I should have asked to TA your other class." Janet sighed. He'd probably assigned her to this one on purpose too. "Daniel's an anthropologist. I don't suppose you'd believe that I'd picked up all my knowledge from listening to him ramble on and on and on constantly, would you?" Janet's voice was dry. Daniel did have a tendency to go on about his pet subjects.

"While I do believe that one can gather a great deal of information from one's signifigant other, anthropolgists in general are focused on societies. You had very particular opinions about personalities." Methos smiles at her, a bit wryly. "I'm curious. Because you're talking in class about things that happened hundred or thousands of years before I was born."

Janet frowned. "What exactly did I say?" she asked. Stupid, Janet, very stupid. How the hell could you forget that your classified knowledge extends into this field?

"Nothing particular," he says. "Just... a sense. Partly because I know one of your secrets. You don't have to say anything. But I'm curious."

"Nothing particular is good, at least," said Janet. "It's a-- very long story. And I should have known better than to show off in front of a guy that was actually around for those times, shouldn't I?" She shook her head. "I have a very difficult time playing dumb, as I believe I've told you before."

She wasn't sure what to tell him. She could probably bring up some of the information about Hahtor without revealing too much.
