Sex Cultures: 6th Period

Grissom has a headache so he, without explanation, pulls a TV unit in and screens some old school sex-ed and hygiene films for the students, which certainly wasn't on the syllabus yet.

He feels the need to share his own high school torment with the youth of today. Or in some cases, the youth of eternity. Whatever.

Then he assigns The Role of Theory in Sex Research, which is 368 pages of absolutely no fun whatsoever, for the weekend.

Shep comes in and sets up his computer so that the back of the monitor directly faces Dr. Grissom. It looks like he's all set to take notes, but what's propped up on the keyboard is a book.

A whole book.

With no section twos mysteriously missing.

Grissom catches a glance of the text and cracks a grin.

"Mr. Sheppard. Nice to see a student so dedicated to his education," he deadpans.

Shep grins, but doesn't close the book or put it away.

"Thank you, sir. I thought a little extra credit ~~with my girlfriend~~ wouldn't hurt. You wouldn't think it would be so hard to get a copy of the required reading for this class around here, but it took me some serious effort to get this book."

[OOC: ~~He is sooo dead. And just wait till he finds out what Kiki and Lana have been up to in the bookstore.~~

"I can't imagine why," Grissom replies, clearly amused. "Now that you have the complete text, has your view point on the reading changed?"

Shep rolls his eyes, but doesn't groan out loud. Leave it to the prof to turn this all academic.

"Not really. It's still all about the guys. Which, you know, isn't right." He looks around at the girls in the class, making sure they heard him say that.

"It's kind of bizarre how they go through and explain how things like oral sex are supposed to be done differently in different regions. Seems to me that that just takes out any creativity a couple might want to ... indulge in. And what if you move? I mean, do you have to learn the new way to do it? And who teaches you? Are there sex classes for non-locals at the local YMCA or something?"

"It's an ancient text, Mr. Sheppard. A lot of the practices are certainly out of date, although you bring up an important point that different regions have different practices, and it can be as difficult to navigate an area's sexual practices as it is to understand their language."

"But then again, I can assure you people still read it for a reason. Some parts of it, at least when it comes to Part II, are fairly eye-opening for a lot of people."

Shep flips over to some of the more graphic illustrations. "Eye opening... yeah, that's one way to explain it."

"That's an interesting lithograph," he answers plainly. "Let me guess, had to go to town to get your hands on it?"

Shep looks a little smug. It had taken some serious determination to get his hands on this book. "Kiki can be very helpful, if a little clueless."

Pip totally does not stare over Shep's shoulder. In no way. And he isn't engaging in some impressive personal seat gymnastics to do this without attracting attention either.

Shep nonchalantly turns the computer just a tad, to make it easier for Pip to see and then flips over to some of the more interesting pictures.

Pip communicates the ideas of "Thanks" and "...Wow." to Shep using secret male non-verbal communication signals that have existed since early man first passed a cave painting of a naked woman on a rock during tribal ceremonies.

Shep flips over to another page and points at the text.

The translation just cracks him up. It's both totally pervy and poetic at the same time.

Pip's eye widens. He may be, off handedly, taking notes.

Shep turns the page and slouches in his chair in order to whisper.

"Man, this book covers everything. They even cover the kinky stuff!"

He points to a passage that says:

Pip blinks. "This is way more impressive than just about every porno I've ever read," he whispers.

Han glances over his shoulder. "Made it through section nine (http://www.sacred-texts.com/sex/kama/kama209.htm) one rainy weekend," he whispers.

Shep flips the pages until he finds the section Han was talking about.

"I don't think I'll ever be able to eat a mango again. At least not without a stupid grin on my face the entire time."

"I think that's the idea."

A paper Raptor with scribbling on it lands near Shep's foot. If he picks it up and unfolds it, it'll read:

Dude. How'd you get a hold of that? And how much can I bribe you to get a look at section 2?

Shep picks up the paper, impressed by the oragami. He unfolds it and writes back:

Took some serious work ~~and the ability to stun Kiki with my charming smile~~

Stop by this weekend if you want to borrow it - room 402.

He doesn't have a chance in hell of getting it folded back the way Anders had it, so he just folds it into little sqares and when Grissom isn't looking, he tosses it back onto Anders' desk.
