Creature Languages, 1/26, Period 3

"Hello.

We have our first quiz in class today, covering what you have learned about Spider, Dragon and general creature communications.

After you finish the quiz, you may watch a DVD showing a woman who claims to psychically communicate with animals.

I cannot speak to her psychic gifts, but it is worth noting the extent to which she uses relatively obvious Cat, Horse and Dog in speaking with the animals on the DVD. This may even be unconscious on her part. In any event, watching this communication should help you prepare for Monday, when we will launch our unit on mammals."

Blair bounces happily as he watches the video and takes notes.

"People pay this woman to come and talk to their animals?"

"Maybe we could get her to talk with Pup," Victor leaned over and suggested.

"I think I could take a guess: Can I eat it? Can I bite it? Can I kill it? Feed me. Play with me. Throw the ball again."

Walter grinned. "Hellhounds are sort of direct in their thinking. I do not think hellpuppies are a whole lot different."

Victor shrugged. "Yeah, that is probably pretty much it. Pup is not exactly one of those wonder dogs that bark 'I love you' or anything. Even if he could, Alphonse's chicken would probably get a headache. Or maybe they would make mutant hellpuppy-chicken hybrid babies...wait, scratch that," he amended, amking a face. "That is jsut kinda gross..."

"Al's chicken left. She left him an egg. If it hatches and the chick has more than two eyes, we will know whom to blame."

Victor grimaced again. "Can hellpuppies be neutered?"

"I think he would regenerate. They do that. At least he is not trying to sit on the egg."

Little did Walter know that at that very moment in his room...

Paige watches the video, wondering if this woman is for real, however given the fact she learnt Cat last semester she's inclinded to believe it to some extent.

"Maybe you should release a DVD sir?" she suggests to Dream

"It probably pays better than teaching!" she pauses for a moment, unsure of whether Dream actually needs money. "Of course you could just do it for the fame!"

Paige laughs slightly, "I'm pretty sure anywhere other than here people would think I was insane if I did something like that."

"Works for this lady obviously." quipped Pippi.

Paige smirked, "You think she wants people to think she's insane?"

"Enough people take her seriously enough when she risks everybody else thinking she's insane and it doesn't appear to matter to her." said Pippi nodding to the screen.

"I mean, people will say and do some pretty crazy things for money. Sometimes it's out of greed, and sometimes it's out of hunger."

She shrugged.

"I'd say this biddy reads people about as well as she reads animals. When she can, she seems to be trying to do good by both. But if the animal doesn't or can't give her anything to go on, she's telling the person what they want or maybe need to hear..."

"For a price."

"She's not bad, but most people could sort this stuff out for themselves if they spent enough effort on it."

"Kinda depends on whether'r not you believe in reincarnation, yeh? Personally I think it's boll--nonsense. Just another layer to her act t'make her 'special' so as people don't figure out they could do this themselves." My, aren't we cynical today.

Xander watched it with an eyebrow half-raised, but that was sort of his default icon expression, after all. "That's...eh. Not saying nobody can talk to animals, or read past lives or whatever, because dude, I've seen it. But I tend to get suspicious of anybody who tries to sell that stuff on the open market - like people who can actually do it wouldn't need to be pimping dvds on late-night cable stations."

Pippi watches the DVD with her feet up on the desk.

"I could be wrong, but I think these sessions are more about the people then the animals."
