Creature Languages, 1/26, Period 3

"Hello.

We have our first quiz in class today, covering what you have learned about Spider, Dragon and general creature communications.

After you finish the quiz, you may watch a DVD showing a woman who claims to psychically communicate with animals.

I cannot speak to her psychic gifts, but it is worth noting the extent to which she uses relatively obvious Cat, Horse and Dog in speaking with the animals on the DVD. This may even be unconscious on her part. In any event, watching this communication should help you prepare for Monday, when we will launch our unit on mammals."

Blair took the test and although he struggled a bit on the first translation, he flew the second. A

Multiple choice? Walter breezed through it.

The translations? Not too bad, although he was desperately wishing for the Dragon/English dictionary he'd returned to the library on part of it.

A

Lisa flies through the multiple choice, although she makes a few technical errors in her efforts to over-achieve, so she gets an A- -ish.

Paige gets all the multiple choice questions right, it might be through sheer luck.

She also does reasonably well with the translations, she's better with it written down than spoken. A

Victor had some trouble with a couple of the questions, and probably messed up some of the Dragon translation. If he was lucky he got a B or B+.

Xander actually did pretty well with Dragon in class, but he was a little distracted by thoughts of buying a hat, for some reason this morning. Plus he never did really manage to figure out the dipthongs in Spider. Or what a dipthong is. B-.

Jake takes the quiz. He doodles on the question sheet and answers the multiple choices more or less randomly. He does well on the translations, however, even if his grammar isn't perfect. B+/A- grade-y.

Zero took the quiz. She did fine on the multiple choice, then got a bit confused on the first translation but managed to sort out the basic meaning. Her second translation is bang-on, though. A-ish.

Stark takes the quiz. He does fine on the translations, but misses a few of the multiple choice questions. It's probably somewhere between a B+ and an A-.

Molly guessed well on the multiple choice, but didn't do so hot on the translations. C

Cordy does quite well on the multiple choice, but is a little spotty on the translations. B+/A-.

Pippi does very well on the multiple choice questions but not so good on the translations... She'd probably be better if there was an actual creature talking to her, rather then decifering a written passage.

B-?

Sakura struggles to remember the vocabulary sheet given on Dragon. Other than that, she does fairly well. B-ish.

Re: Creature video, 1/26

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2006-01-26 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Paige watches the video, wondering if this woman is for real, however given the fact she learnt Cat last semester she's inclinded to believe it to some extent.

"Maybe you should release a DVD sir?" she suggests to Dream

Xander watched it with an eyebrow half-raised, but that was sort of his default icon expression, after all. "That's...eh. Not saying nobody can talk to animals, or read past lives or whatever, because dude, I've seen it. But I tend to get suspicious of anybody who tries to sell that stuff on the open market - like people who can actually do it wouldn't need to be pimping dvds on late-night cable stations."
