History of Western Civilisation - Wednesday 5th Period: Discussion 3: Greek Politics and War

All right, class. I've received a few death threats for the way I treated the Peloponnesian War in the last class... which is to say, I didn't. If you care... good for you. I don't.

So, now we're going to talk about Greek Politics and War. That is only slightly an oxymoron.

Your homework, due next Tuesday but turned in to this post is to give me at least one hundred words craftily cut-and-pasted, possibly from here on some aspect of Greek political life. Go.

About five minutes later, someone skips down the hall, singing 'Come On Eileen'. The voice is vaguely familiar, but cracks from time to time on the high notes.

Methos winces and apologizes to Liz and steps aside for a moment. He sticks his head out the door and sees a redhead ginger-haired boy that he hasn't seen at the school before. "If you don't stop singing that wretched song, I will beat you on the head until I've achieved enough brain damage to block either the song or the ability to sing from your memory."

"A bit difficult when I have more neurons per square inch of gray matter than you do in your whole head, Adam," the boy replies, smirking all too familiarly.

Methos glared at him. Cheeky British accent, calling him by his name... "Let me guess, CJ *did* shotgun you into next week, and this is your new body?"

The boy...who obviously is Ten...rolls his eyes. "More like she got herself sucked into Locker 327, and I pulled an Orpheus and went after her. Don't you listen to the radio? Or the announcements? Or call your significant others from time to time which is not Rhi actually accusing you, because she understands?"

Methos ticks off on his fingers, "No, I never listen to the radio, what fool FOLLOWS someone into danger, and I figure that if you were going to that foolish, you'd call me and fill me in. And OMG playing a evil vindictive vampire bitch is a TIMESUCK."

"'No greater love hath any man than this...'" Ten quotes. "'Sides, I've been too busy chasing CJ around and dealing with her...moodswings. And dealing with the fact that I've started using the word cool in common parlance and my voice is now half an octave higher. And I just wrote twenty pages of poetry yesterday." Shudder. "Really BAD poetry."

He moves closer to Methos. "And that's not even mentioning the horny part."

"Oh, dear God. CJ too?" Methos stops and contemplates. "Does that make you Romeo and Juliet... or Bonnie and Clyde?" He grins at Ten. "What do you think I am, a dirty old man?"

"Yeah. God, and she is a bloody fox..." Ten blushes violently, and his voice cracks again. "Trust me, if you see her, you'll know what I mean. Not like she isn't usually..." A sigh. "Actually, I'm really, really tired of this. Hope it wears off, sooner rather than later like, tomorrow morning when I wake up, because it sucks."

He smirks a little more. "And I don't think, I know. Though I already got the 'you shouldn't do this' lecture from Geoff, who was really freaked out when I kissed him, oh my god."

Methos snickers at Ten's teenage frailties. "So I take it that it was a physiological as well as physical regression? Remind me not to go anywhere near Locker 327. Zero threw herself into it last semester for the sake of science and she almost got burned by witchhunters."

Methos leans back against the wall of the hallway and laughs. "Oh, that would have been priceless to see. Because Geoff is all about doing the mature and responsible thing. Not that I'd want to see Geoff kissing you," Methos says primly. "Not at all."

"Hormonal," Ten says, and leaves it at that. "Sucks, as I said. Geoff told me to come back when I was old again. Well, not in those words, but yeah. He was all responsible and shit...which is really too bad."

His voice has dropped slightly, and he moves a little closer. "...And since when are you mature or responsible either, old man? Do tell. Especially since you like to watch men kissing." He's tempted to holler it down the hall--'Doctor Pierson likes to watch men kissing', but eventually the Time Lord part of his mind overcomes the hormonal imbalance.

"See, this is why I like older men. They actually *listen* to what I say." Methos shakes his head and tsks. "I said -- quite clearly, I thought -- that I had no interest in seeing you and Geoff kiss."

"I've picked things up from living with the Speech Comm professor. One of them is tonality and another is non-verbal communication." The smirk on his face has gotten even wider.

Leaning in, he whispers in Methos' ear, very, very quietly ((in an NFB way)), "Besides, I 'quite clearly' remember you liking it the last time you did see it. Not to mention when you were on the receiving end. So if that's changed, pity for you, then..."

Pulling away, he raises a brow.
