Mathematics: All Classes: Wednesday. 25.1.6: 1. period

Today Charlie is looking sort of feverishly happy, and what he's saying keeps getting interrupted by coughing fits. "Today we are going to have some fun!

Before you can have your breakfast today, the Beginners are going to figure out how much the breakfast they want will cost, while the Intermediates are going to calculate the sales cost. You all have to pick at least three things. Broots, you can help them out."

He thought for a moment, while blowing his nose. "And you don't have to actually pay for the food, just do the math."

Victor looks over the items and prices, then goes to his desk and does some calculations.

Let's see...no Honey Nut Cheerios woe!, so I'll just go with the regular Cheerios. That's 55 cents right there. of course I need milk, so that's another dollar. I wanna try the English tea, but I'll get a Gatorade just in case I don't like it. So that's 20 cents plus $1.29. I want some Ritz Bits, but that's junk food, so I'll get an apple, too. That's...$1.75 altogether...

He added the numbers on his paper together, then raised his eyebrows. His breakfast cost $4.79, which he thought was pretty expensive. Good think I'm not paying for this... he thought before getting up to turn his work in and get his breakfast.

Hot cocoa, tea, or chai? Kiki agonizes. She opts at last for the chai - it's more expensive, but tea and cocoa are her usual staples at the bookstore, and something different would be nice. Corn flakes and an apple. A dollar-seventy-five and another fifty and five, plus the milk, makes three dollars-thirty.

"$3.30" she reports.

"Can't I just give you one of these?" she says holding up a small golden coin. "... Ooookay."

sheesh.

coffee - .51
milk - $1
Froted flakes - .69
Orange - $1

After much scribbling on a bit of paper... (most of which are doodles)... Pippi comes up with $3.20

Molly looked over the food and decided she was glad she wouldn't have to pay for it since she'd missed breakfast that morning.

Hmm, she wanted cocoa - she decided on the special one, $ .59, milk $1.00, Froot Loops, $ .59, Mini Oreos, $ .69 and an orange, $1.00.

She named off everything she wanted to buy. "Plus the free water for my cocoa makes my total $3.87." She grinned at Charlie proudly.

“Let’s see… we’ll start with some tea. Which is twenty cents. Gonna want some milk with that, so it’s a buck twenty. Two nice bowls of Special K and I’m at… er… two dollars and forty-one cents. Toss me an apple and I’ve got myself a nice breakfast at a cool three dollars and forty-one cents.”
