Pippi takes a seat next to Anders and shakes his hand. Blah blah blah very firm grip for a girl her size but not painfully so.

"I'm not Anders, I'm Pippi... Oh! You're Anders! I think we're on the Beautification Team together."

His eyes widen momentarily at the strength of her grip, but he laughs and shakes her hand anyway. "Hiya, Pippi. So what'd you do to get stuck on that team?"

Pippi considers this.

"I think the final straw was taping the golf cart to the wall outside Smith's office and Pip suggesting that it be used as an inbox... Which he is. You?"

Anders chokes on a gulp of milk at that. "Whoa. That was you guys? Man. That takes some work." He whistles. "And all I did was get in a fight."

Anders acknowledges this with a nod. "'s true. Maybe next time I'll just turn Kennedy into a lawn ornament. Or a doorstop."

A wicked grin suddenly grew on Victor's face. "I think I have an idea."

"Oh gods." Anders shakes his head. "Don't tempt me, or Cally's gonna kick my ass."

"I think we can trust Victor not to suggest something violent. I still have an orphan prank looking for a home. Does your problem child have roommates?"

He leaned into the group and said in a low voice: "Lawn Gnomes."

Anders thinks for a few minutes, and manages to somehow practically inhale all his mashed potatoes and gravy in the process. "I dunno . . . if I get in more trouble, Cally's probably gonna make me sleep in the common room for, like, a month." Still, he looks tempted. "Lawn gnomes, huh?"

"Back in my world, there was this commercial on TV that used to play, like, all the time. This group of kids borrowed a neighbor's lawn gnome and took him all over the place and took pictures of it. They kept sending him a few pictures a day, until eventually they brought the gnome back. So, I was thinking...what if we do the same thing? Except, no stealing from the principal, of course. Just leaving him crazy pictures of lawn gnomes in his new inbox?"

Anders laughs uneasily. "That sounds really funny, actually. But seriously, I better not get involved. If the Colonial Pyramid League back home gets wind of me being in trouble in school, they might think twice about that pro contract they offered me."

"On the other hand, there is nothing I can do that will shock Arthur. And Alfred encouraged me to keep up my 'activities.' Although I do not know why."

Walter made a note to ask his tutor the next time they met. Alfred didn't actually seem to be averse to answering his questions.

Victor rolled his eyes and sighed. "figures. The first time I want to get a prank together I get chickened out on." But he smiled anyway, and gave him a look that said that it was okay.

Pippi shruged.

"Nothing is ever work if you're with your friends... Was it a good fight at least?"

"I'm kinda sorry I didn't really break his nose," admits Anders, "but I also kinda don't want to get kicked out or anything."

"What were you fighting about?"

"It was stupid, actually," Anders admits, pushing a piece of turkey around his plate with the fork. "He likes to try and get to me, and I let him, so I just kinda lost it and knocked him down. Bloodied his nose a little bit," he adds with a hint of satisfaction.

"But it was kinda dumb, and man, did I catch hell from my girlfriend for it."

Pippi nodded sagely.

"That's what we're for you know." she says confidentially as if letting Anders in on a secret, "That's what Fredolf used to tell me."

"I kinda had a feeling," he replies just as confidentially. "Not that I'm complaining. Don't think I'd get half my homework done if I wasn't afraid of her yelling at me."

He coughs. "Just, y'know, don't let on that I'm actually afraid of that."

"I doubt she needs me to tell her that. But I won't let it slip to anybody else... Promice."

She licks her index finger and crosses her heart.

Anders laughs and fishes a couple of gumballs out of his pocket, rolling them across the table to Pippi. "Thanks. I'm pretty sure she knows already, but I don't need the extra mocking from other people around here."

Pippi grabbed the gumballs.

"That's right." she said, "I expect gumballs every day or else I'll make posters!" she grins. "Just kidding."

She pops one in her mouth and starts to chew.

"So what are your plans to contribute to the beautification of our 'All My Matter'?"
