Walter shook his head at the suggestion. "No. I don't need to involve them.

"So what are you going to do with the weapons you purchase?"

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"For now? Throw them with the rest of my stuff in the weapons locker. More than anything else I'm just being paranoid. You never know what's coming. One day everything's fine and BOOM. Next minute someone's got you helplessly pinned to the ground, ya know?"

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Walter glanced up and scowled at Pip, "What's that supposed to mean?"

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Pip's eye widened. "It's supposed to me that you're supposed to be on your guard, ya know? Never know what's coming. Did I mistranslate something, say the English wrong?"

No way in hell was Walter going to tell Pip that he had just described his evening to a T.

If Pippi volunteered the information, he was going to crawl under the table.

Well, no, actually, he wasn't, but he'd certainly want to.

"Your English was fine." However, he hadn't stopped scowling.

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Pip raised an eyebrow. "Then why the reaction? Something's wrong, Walter." He pointed at his friend with his cigarette. "I'm not going to make you tell me, but I will ask you one last time. What's up?"

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Walter pushed his tray aside and reached for a new cigarette since his had burned down to nothing.

"I have a new teacher."

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Pip held out his lighter again.

"What kind of teacher? Did you enroll in one of the open classes?"

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
He took the light and gratefully drew smoke into his lungs before answering Pip's question.

"No. He's not part of Fandom's faculty. He's new to the island. Newer than we, I should say."

He unconsciously rubbed a hand over his cheek and made a face.

"One of the new townies? Someone was telling me a bunch of people are moving in," Pip said. "What's his name? What's he teaching you?"

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Alfred Pennyworth and I'm not sure what he's teaching me other than how to avoid being pinned helplessly to the ground."

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well that explains your reaction, at least. What happened?"

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"We met. It didn't go well. I have a new teacher," Walter answered tersely.

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Pip stared at him for a while. "You got your ass handed to you, didn't you?"

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Walter had been scowling before; Pip's question had him glaring.

Unfortunately, it was an entirely accurate description.

"In public. In front of Victor," he finally said, dropping his glare to the table and scratching at the ugly surface with a fingernail.

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, that'd be te thing that would get you to react like this," Pip said, taking a bite of cheekee. He shook his head. "I don't know what to tell you, mon ami. Welcome to mortality and knowing that there probably is someone stronger out there than you." He grinned. "Look on the bright side, though. If he's that good, think about how good you'll be after he's done teaching you, right?"

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-01-23 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Walter, however, had left his sense of humor and perspective about that particular matter in his room that morning.

With a nod to Pippi and no words to Pip, he stood and took his tray away.

Maybe he'd take Pup for a walk in the park.
