Speech Comm

A young girl with red hair and a black suit sits cross legged on the table in front of the class. She's eating doughnuts and drinking a coke.

301--InterComm 3rd period

"Hey! So today we're gonna talk about senders, and how the ethos of the sender can chage the message. Ethos is the credibility of the speaker, as opposed to Logos which is the logic of the argument or Pathos which is an appeal to the emotions of the receiver. Got it? Cool.

Kay, so...I'm not looking like myself and that might have maybe caused a problem or two over the weekend. So you're all smart and stuff, especially Shep there, whatcha think? Tell me all you know aout senders and how they craft the message".

401--Advanced 5th period

She's nearly bouncing around, and she lays printouts of the images in front of them.

"Gestalt! Got you attention? We're going to break these down using the Gestalt principles of design and see if we can decide what gives them power. Ask me whatever, you know. It's cool. This is new and kinda hard and stuff.

Maia sat down watching C.J. very closely and then raised her hand "Ms. C.J. um, if you don't mind me saying so, you look very nice today." Maia looked thoughtful then "The sender is the originator of the message and so they can basically decide how they want the message sent. I mean if they want it clear or not depends on how they word it."

Maia glanced around the room for a moment and then back at C.J. "Well...there was a misunderstanding a couple months ago and you were upset with me over Shane and Tara." Maia watched C.J. carefully as she said this "But you and talked and I explained what happened and so you and I can communicate very easily now though I must say I hope I never see you mad at me again." She was totally not sure if thats what C.J. wanted her to say or not she was still baffled by the young C.J. in front of her.

Maia looked very thoughtful while she stared at C.J. "Well that would depend." She said finally "On other factors of you looking like this." Maia said finally. "But yeah you looking like this does take away from your power position and its effect. I mean hell, if I got angry with you would you say 'there is Maia being angry with me' or 'oh hell this 68 year old woman is pissed at me and she is older then me so her power postion comes into play." Maia raised an eyebrow waiting for C.J.'s response.
