Ivanova, feeling much more alive than she had the last few classes, almost bounces through the warm-up and drills, and then waits for a sparring partner.
Ivanova blinks as he excutes the move the first time, totally surprising her. "Alright, that . . . was really cool." She takes up a stance. "Show me how to do it again?" She grins.
"Nope. I don't let students do anything. If you don't do the move right, you don't get the results. Soft pedalling is setting you up to fail later, and that's something I won't do." His tone is not harsh but definitely serious.
Ivanova raises an eyebrow at such a serious answer to her light-hearted question. "An admirable man, Mr. MacLeod." She grinned. "Anything else you can show me?"
Now that she wasn't sick or bone-tired, she was . . . frighteningly perky.
Wide grin. "I'm sure I can think of more sneaky things..." He thinks a moment then demonstrates a three move combination slowly, then quickly. The sort of thing to set your opponent up in the first two moves if they react instead of planning and then get them in the third move. "Your turn..."
"Hello, Mr. MacLeod. I did what you asked," Parker said, showing up in work-out clothes. "I did some research on different types of self-defense. I think maybe Aikido would be a better fit for me."
With narrowed eyes, Ivanova tried to follow. She got the first two moves, but slipped on the last and ended up on her back. She rolled to her feet, shaking it off. "Let me try it again," she said pugnaciously.
"I think that's a really good call. In my opinion, you can be more devious in aikido anyway." He nods approvingly. "Warm up, and we'll start some simple drills."
Parker smiled and bowed, then went through her stretches, along with the dance positions she learned, and finally got limber enough to feel confident. "Ready when you are, sir."
He's been stretching himself. "Okay." He starts with simple things, letting her get used to the change in styles and then picking up the pace somewhat.
Ivanova paused before she tried the move. If Duncan knew her, he might be a little worried at the expression on her face. She moved the combination, but finished it off with a twist that she had picked up from Marcus. A rather painful twist, if she had done it correctly.
She grins at him. "Thanks. I picked it up from the Anla-shok - the Rangers, to us humans." She notices him shake his arm, and asks, concerned, "I didn't hurt you, did I? Too badly, at least?"
Han's loosened up a little more in the last week. No pain, hasn't been for weeks, just a little stiff. He stretches them a little deeper tonight than before.
"Most of them aren't bad," she replies. "I'm working on getting my hands on a particular weapon they use - this staff that expands from about this big," she holds her hands about five inches apart. "They manage to do some serious damage with it. I'm hoping for a care package."
Ivanova held up her hands. "Strictly as an observer. To be honest, I'm not much good with a knife, either. Hand-to-hand or ranged weapons for me. And most of my hand-to-hand experience comes from some rather interesting parties."
This week goes much more smoothly than last. She isn't fighting her kicking or boxing instincts so much, and the holds are familiar enough for her to pick them up fairly easily.
After a few holds and sparring, she asks, "What school is this one, or is it a combination? And do I need to study the philosophy that goes with it? Because to be honest, I'm not much one for 'harmony of spirit'. I'm willing to try, but...."
Cameron signs in, looking very much like he already did this class today and ended up gettings his ass kicked. Which isn't so far from the truth if the bruise on his jaw is anything to go by.
After class, Cameron approaches Duncan. "Mr MacLeod? I'm sorry I missed class yesterday. I was wondering if there was any way I could catch up with the work we did then."
"Professor MacLeod? I was wondering if you'd sign this drop form for me." Vala smiled at him. "It's not that I don't like the class, but the mun I just took on too much this semester and I'm thinking maybe I could take it next year instead?"
Drills, then sparring
After that, he turns to the class. "Pair up for sparring, please."
