Jung: Archetypes, Etc. (Monday, 01/16/2006, 4th Period)

"Hey, guys. Today, we're going to be watching Star Wars IV: A New Hope Space Battles XII: A New Start. It's a pretty good example of The Hero's Journey, one of Jung's archetypal stories. So watch the movie, read the handouts, come up with a good question, and we'll discuss the concept on Thursday.

ETA: The door to the classroom is closed to minimize disturbances from the hallway.


OOC: I've been offline all day due to work issues, and I'm sorry for having posted this so late. And I think we don't have a fake Star Wars title, but if so, someone let me know and I'll correct this.

"You know, I'm surprised the journey doesn't take that into account," Angel said. "Not that dads and daughters don't have a connection, but wouldn't a female hero be more inclined to want to find some kind of rapport with her mother?"

"I guess that based on being the same gender if nothing else, yeah. The whole wanting or fearing growing up to become one's parents, and all of that," Rory nodded. "But there's still the psychological need for approval from the father, since he's traditionally the highest authority within the family unit."

"Wasn't in my family," Angel said, "but, uh, guess we're already on non-traditional once you add vampire to the mix, huh?"

His family life wasn't exactly what people would think of as normal, either.

Sometimes she needed a reminder that she still had some family.
