Welcome Dance - the Gym

The streamers and banners are up. So are a zillion multi-colored helium balloons.

The floor is cleared, and the bandstand is up at the north side of the room, ready for Dusted Bunnies to take their places.

The refreshment table, with the (as yet) unspiked punch is in place. There are chips and stuff as well, Chex mix, a few nachos and some guacamole.

Party on, dudes! And welcome to Fandom High.

"I should get an award," Anakin said, nodding. "Or a statue or something."

"A medal," Rory agreed, also nodding.

Oops, it seemed her head had ceased to nod so that it leaned onto Anakin's shoulder. Nothing to be done about that.

"Or at least snazzy theme music or something."

Anakin was certainly not going to complain about Rory leaning against him.

At all.

"When I'm ruling the galaxy with an iron fist, I'll demand snazzy theme music," he said. "And a cape. And minions. And, um, decent music on the radio."

"But won't that conflict with your theme music? And capes are supposed to be bad, 'cause I remember when they were designing my sidekick costume - which is spandex and has thigh-high boots and is bad and something I have yet to wear - it came up," Rory noted.

"Good point," Anakin said, "about the radio. Okay, kill the radio. But I'm keeping the cape. I think I have the height to pull it off. It's not like I'll be flying or getting stuck in doors or anything--it'll be a lot like the robes I'm used to anyway."

He raised an eyebrow. "Spandex? And thigh highs?"

There was a definitely doofy smile on his face now.

"Yes. Shut up," Rory said, blushing. "It's impractical. This is what happens when fashion students are allowed to design clothes. And I've never worn it. Because ew, spandex."

Anakin was still looking a little too closely at Rory. "So," he finally said, "what sort of humiliation would I have to subject myself to in order to see you in this suit?"

Rory shyly looked over Anakin's shoulder at a fascinating spot on the wall. "There is no amount of humiliation that you can afford. Come on, I modeled leather pants in public. Isn't that enough for people?"

Anakin looked profoundly disappointed. "You modeled leather pants and I missed it?"

He pouted. "That was the weekend I went home."

He waggled his eyebrows. "Any chance I could get a special viewing? Please?"

"Of the spandex or the leather?" Rory asked, nestling her head just under his chin. "Spandex, no. Leather could be negotiated. Possibly."

Anakin looked around a little anxiously, but no one seemed to be paying them any attention.

"I'm quite the negotiator," he said. "Not as good as Obi-Wan, but I do have a habit of getting what I want."

"Uh huh. Of course. We'll see. It's entirely possible they don't fit anymore," Rory teased.

"One way to find out," Anakin suggested, eyes innocent.

"Good idea. I'll try them on when I get back to my room tonight, and when they don't fit, I'll dispose of them," Rory said cheerfully.

Anakin tried not to pout. "Um. Not exactly what I had in mind," he whispered into her ear.

Rory smiled against his shoulder, and pulled back enough to give him her most innocent smile. "But the simplest. I love efficiency, you know."

"And I'm all in favor of efficiency as a general concept," Anakin said. "It's just this specific incident that I fear the pants' rights to be seen might, um," his eyes twinkled, "be overlooked in the quest for greater efficiency."

"Are you trying to argue that my pants are sentient and have rights that I'm neglecting?" Rory asked skeptically.

"Well, when you put it that way it sounds pretty silly," Anakin said with a small smile.

"Ah, yes, but the other way wasn't silly at all," Rory teased.

Anakin smirked. "Exactly."

Rory smiled. "So, in fact, since my pants are not sentient and any rights that might be percieved as theirs fall under my jurisdiction...I pretty much win this, yes?"

Anakin looked shifty. "Possibly."

He stuck his lower lip out. "Damn. I need to pay more attention when Obi-Wan does this kind of thing."

"I didn't realize Obi-Wan spent so much time trying to get girls to wear leather pants," Rory replied dryly.

"Okay, maybe not this specific incident," Anakin said with a grin, "but the general technique of arguing successfully is something Obi-Wan is very, very good at."

Anakin shrugged. "I tend to go for the weapons a lot sooner."
