Welcome Dance - the Gym

The streamers and banners are up. So are a zillion multi-colored helium balloons.

The floor is cleared, and the bandstand is up at the north side of the room, ready for Dusted Bunnies to take their places.

The refreshment table, with the (as yet) unspiked punch is in place. There are chips and stuff as well, Chex mix, a few nachos and some guacamole.

Party on, dudes! And welcome to Fandom High.

"Right," she says, and goes to where the punch is obvious, then thinks maybe she should wait a little, so she waits, and Jaye curses this age.

Archie starts to get Jaye a glass of punch, then thinks that maybe it would be the wrong thing to do in this era, so he stops. Which only looks more awkward. But handing her an empty cup would be rude, wouldn't it?

He can't figure out a way out of this dilemma, so he just sort of stands there holding two empty punch cups and looks incredibly foolish.

Jaye smiles. "Planning on doing anything with those?"

"Well, there was a plan to put punch in them, but . . ." Archie looks at the cups, and then at the punch bowl, and then at Jaye. And then he blushes.

"We fail at punch," she nods.

Archie is incredibly embarrassed now, so he puts the cups down on the table.

"Maybe we should try this again," he says, filling both cups and then offering one to Jaye.

"Thanks," she says, taking it. And drinking from it. "Not alcoholic yet. Good."

The punch not being alcoholic is a good thing. Archie files this away for future reference.

"I confess to being a little perplexed by this music," he notes, squinting at the stage over the top of his cup.

Not that he's slowly edging closer to Jaye or anything.

"Well, it's punk. It's not everyone's style, but they definitely don't suck," Jaye says, not that she's noticing he's edging closer, which gives her no reason to smile into her punch cup.

"It's interesting," replies Archie, still looking at the stage with a touch of suspicion. "And very, erm, loud." He's not noticing that Jaye is smiling into her punch cup, which would deter him from continuing to edge closer.

If it wasn't for the fact that he wasn't edging closer, Jaye might have asked if he danced. If he's so not any closer, she just smiles and says, "Yeah, they like it that way. Good for throwing yourselves together in mosh pits."

"Mosh pits?" asks Archie. "That sounds . . . distinctly dirty."

He's totally not edging almost right up to Jaye by now or anything.

She turns to look at him and wow, he's close. Except not. "Yeah," she says. "Definitely dirty. And... sweaty." She clears her throat.

Wow, is it warm in here, but Archie is in no way wanting to tug at his collar. "Is this one of those things I should experience at least once?"

Jaye looks a little surprised when she says, "What? Wait, I mean... what?" Maybe her brain was in the wrong place.

Archie is blissfully oblivious to any double entendres here. "The mosh pit? Is that one of those must-have experiences, or am I better off missing it?"

"Oh! Mosh pit," she says, not red at all. At all. "Probably not. They get kinda violent sometimes. It's not pretty."

"Well, if it's not pretty, it's hardly a place for you," says Archie, who can't believe that just came out of his mouth. "Should we keep a safe distance, then? From the mosh pit, I mean?"

Eee! "Yeah, we can stay away from the moshing," she says, and she's grinning like an idiot again.

Archie is grinning like an idiot again too. "Since the punch is only interesting for so long, what do you think we should do now?" He's a little too busy flailing internally to think about this much.

He's not alone in the internal flailing. Which sounds dirty if you think about it. "Um. Well, moshing's out. Do you dance or anything or... Because I don't have to, it's not like at thing or anything."

"None of the dances I know would be anywhere near appropriate for this," says Archie, flailing even more now. "We could, er, find somewhere to sit and watch people? They could be mockable."

"We could," Jaye nods quickly. "Because there's not much else to do and.... mocking's good."

"As long as I don't get in trouble with the Dean for it." Archie grins. "Care to pick out a good vantage point?"

Jaye looks around, looking for somewhere, anywhere they can go. "Um. It's a little busy. I have no idea."
