Welcome Dance - the Gym

The streamers and banners are up. So are a zillion multi-colored helium balloons.

The floor is cleared, and the bandstand is up at the north side of the room, ready for Dusted Bunnies to take their places.

The refreshment table, with the (as yet) unspiked punch is in place. There are chips and stuff as well, Chex mix, a few nachos and some guacamole.

Party on, dudes! And welcome to Fandom High.

"Ninjas were originally stealthy warriors from Japan who got coopted by modern day popular culture because they are, in fact, awesome. I have no clue how that lead to ninjas being here, though," Peter shrugged. "Oh, and their archenemies are pirates for some reason."

"No, my date's not in a different world. She did, however, dump me via e-mail. So, really, I'm probably only doing a little better than you right now. And that's only because being from a different world is pretty impressive."

"Oookay." Alanna blinked and made a note to read up on that at some point. "I haven't seen him since Parent Weekend. But we write to each other, a lot. And here? Being from a different world is norm. Or being from space which still breaks my brain. Sorry to hear about your girlfriend though."

"Hey, I'm new. I get to be a little amazed by people being from other worlds for at least another week. Good for you with writing each other, though. Keep it going strong." Peter toasted Alanna with his Dixie cup.

"And thanks. I mean, I'll live. There's no point being all emo about it right now. Hence, the dance. A chance to meet new people, listen to surprisingly good music, and make a complete and utter fool of myself on the dance floor after someone spikes the punch." Peter grinned, "It'll be fun!"

"Trust me, it's hard to make a fool of yourself around here." She paused. "That's what we have Marty for. And well, me for dancing mockery. I sorta stopped being amazed by anything once I figured out e-mail." She grinned. "It was my turning point for completely giving up and just nodding and smiling along."

"At least I can sleep soundly knowing that there are bigger fools around than me." And if he had witnessed any of the Brady stuff the other night, he would have mentioned something about pitying Marty.

"So you've mastered the nod and the smile?" Peter nodded. "Well done. You're now better prepared for the world than a great many people."

"I had to deal with ambassadors. Sadly, I have practice. When the nodding and smiling failed, we switched to the 'Why yes, we can fence very well, thank you' part of the greeting."

Re: Punch (pre-spiking)

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Ambassadors? My pity," Peter said. Peter had no clue where Alanna was from, but dealing with ambassadors didn't sound like fun. There's a reason the middle syllable was what it was, Peter felt.

"Yeah, I'm glad that I don't have to deal with that kind of stuff. I just had to deal with public school." And supervillains. But he wasn't about to mention that.

Re: Punch (pre-spiking)

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"From what I've heard, public school is just as bad."

"We did have a big goblin monster attack at one point. Oh, and then there's the lack of funding, and crazy students, and all of that stuff." Peter shrugged. "But at least it's not boring."

Re: Punch (pre-spiking)

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Goblin monster in a regular school? Wow, I thought only we got those. And yeah, boring is bad, as my talking cat often reminds me."

"My understanding is that my home dimension is slightly atypical. Granted, I didn't know that other dimensions existed before last week, so my definition of 'atypical' probably means nothing at this point. But still," Peter babbled.

"Wait. Talking cat?" Peter sniffed his punch. It didn't smell spiked.

"Yeah. He's pretty special. I named him Faithful, which he usually is. Small, black, has violet eyes like me." She made a vague cat shape with her hands. "Gossips like crazy."

Re: Punch (pre-spiking)

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh." Peter shook his head. "Okay, I think a gossipping cat is less insane to me than an undead puppy. My brain remains unbroken. Although now I'm thinking I need a quirky pet of some sort."

"I think I have to meet Faithful at some point. That would be pretty cool."

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Alanna smiled. "I should have brought him with me tonight as my date, really. And I'll tell him that Peter in room, um, where ever you are, would like to meet him. And he's run into the undead puppy. It was interesting in a very morbid way. Did you run into the undead student yet?"

Re: Punch (pre-spiking)

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm in 313. Please, send him by. I think it would be fun."

"We have an undead student?" Peter asked. "I don't think anyone had mentioned that to me before."

Re: Punch (pre-spiking)

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Alanna blinked. "Yeah, he's not very sociable, but he is good friends with Faithful. Um, goes by Angel, tall, dark, and broody." Alanna waved a hand somewhere way over her head. "Very tall. Then again, for me everyone's tall."

Re: Punch (pre-spiking)

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh." Peter rememebered Rory mentioning a good vampire somewhere in Fandom. He idly wondered if this Angel guy was that vampire. "I'll have to keep an eye out for him. I already met an undead puppy, why not an undead person?"

"I'm guessing that he's taller than me, though?" Peter who is 5'7" asked. "So I just have to look up/"

Re: Punch (pre-spiking)

[identity profile] threeweapons.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Alanna who is almost five feet glanced up. "I guess? If it helps, his puppy Sean is friends with the undead puppy Vladdie. And my talking cat Faithful dislikes them both because they think he's a chew toy." She peered at Peter. "I dare you to write that back to someone back home."

Re: Punch (pre-spiking)

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll take you up on that," Peter laughed. "I even know who it's going to be. She'll be kind of weirded out, but she'll adjust. In time. Hopefully not needing therapy."

"Ex-girlfriend? Well, just don't break her brain too much."

Re: Punch (pre-spiking)

[identity profile] peter--parker.livejournal.com 2006-01-14 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
"A different ex-girlfriend, actually. I'm still on good terms with her, though. And she knows about some pretty insane stuff, so this won't be too shocking to her." Peter laughed a little. "But shocking enough."
