Welcome Dance - the Gym

The streamers and banners are up. So are a zillion multi-colored helium balloons.

The floor is cleared, and the bandstand is up at the north side of the room, ready for Dusted Bunnies to take their places.

The refreshment table, with the (as yet) unspiked punch is in place. There are chips and stuff as well, Chex mix, a few nachos and some guacamole.

Josh took a sip from a glass of, well, something and watched the excitment around him with probably a little too much gleeful interest on his face.

On her way into the dance to find Shep, Lana stops by to say hello. "Professor, hey, Lana Lang from your US History class. I wasn't expecting to see you here."

Josh grinned. "I'm the new faculty advisor for the student council," he said. "So Parker convinced me that I should be here."

Lana winces. "Student Council. I was running for that. Before."

Josh arched a brow. "Oh. Detention. It got your name recognition up, though, right? Is there something that bars you from running if you've received a detention?"

Lana frowned. "I don't think there's anything that bans me from running because of it, but I know last term at least one Student Council rep got kicked off for earning detention."

Josh frowned. "I don't know what the regs are off the top of my head, but if you still want to run, I say go for it until someone tells you differently."

Lana sighs. "Well, I put posters up earlier in the week, but I haven't done anything since, well, since the whole incident Tuesday night. I suppose I could put up more Sunday night or Monday before the voting."

She hesitates. "Do you think I'd make a good representative? I mean, I know you haven't known me long, but I've heard you're pretty good at making quick character judgements and I'm not sure if this is something I'd be good at."

Lana looks at him curiously. "Of course, I would. That's a given. It's part of the job, right? Besides, I'm so conscientious I even show up and post in classes I'm not even *in*! ;) I just don't know... I don't know. If I'm cut out for it, I guess."

Josh shrugged. "Then I think you're probably just as qualified, if not more so, than most of the candidates in the race."

Lana smiled at him. "Good to know. Thanks. I'm really enjoying your classes by the way. They're really interesting."

"Glad to hear it," Josh said smiling. Then he made a shooing motion with his hands. "You don't want to spend your evening talking with a teacher. Go. Have fun."
