Pip, feeling brave and secrtely having a great love for Mecurunee und Cheese-a, slips in and spoons himself a hideously large portion. He grabs some apple pie for good measure, hearing that it was a classic American dish. Or something.

Moving a little stiffly and with a livid red scrape along his jaw, Walter loads his tray with a lot of everything and looks around for a place to sit. A thin stream of smoke guides him to the smoking section, which, as far as he can tell, is wherever he or Pip sits first.

"Room for one more?"

"Sure," Pip says, sliding the cigarette pack across the table. "Help yourself, I promise it isn't American." He looks over Walter. "You alright, mon ami? You look kind of beat up and kind of... unsettled. Sleep alright?"

Walter grimaces at the beat up comment. "Alanna's self defense class last night. I went a little too easy on Nadia."

He plops himself down across from Pip and takes a cigarette, nodding his thanks and lighting up. "Weird dreams, too. Must be something in the air. Maybe a gremlin bit me or something."

Pip tries not to laugh at the image of Walter having his ass handed to him by Nadia. "Yeah, never underestimate people. I thought you, of all people, would know that."

He takes a drag on his cigarette. "Weird dreams? What kind of weird dreams? I had a weird dream about Angenlina Jolie last night, myself."

"I was trying to go easy on her. It's hard to adjust between full out and safe for humans."

He looks down at his tray and eats quickly for a few minutes before answering Pip's question about dreams. "It's hard to explain. With the things I've seen, I don't know why this is sticking with me. And if you're giving me shit for sparring with Nadia, I don't think I want to hear what you say about the dream."

Pip has a bite of Mecurunee und Cheese-a and looks across at Walter seriously. "Alright, no jokes. Something's obviously really bothering you and you strike me as the unflappable type. Therefore, anything that bothers you is worth paying attention to. I promise on my mother and father's gaves that I won't make fun of you. Now, what was your dream about?"

"I'm holding you to your promise unless you want to find all of your clothes reduced to nothing better than bandage strips."

Walter takes a drag off his cigarette and stares down at the table surface, seeing something other than the ugly formica-ish surface.

"I dreamed there there was something coming. Something that even I don't have a chance against. Every time I turned around, it was there, and everything I did earned its disapproval. It was fast. It was strong."

Walter takes another drag and exhales slowly. "And it had very, very, very shiny shoes."

He wasn't sure how to explain the ruler.

Pip raised his eyebrows. That did sound pretty terrible. "Jeeze. If you describe something as fast it must be really fast." He takes a drag off his cigarette. "And shiny shoes. Hm. I guess I could play ametuer psychologist here and suggest that maybe you've got some sort of weird memory connected with shiny shoes?"

He taps his cigarette on an ashtray. "Anything else in the dream?"

Walter muttered, not looking up from his food.

Pip blinked. Well, as much as one can blink with one eye. He leaned over. "I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you. What did it have?"

"A ruler! A ruler! It had a ruler!" Walter snapped, then looked around in embarrassment. "Sorry."

"What about a ruler?" Said Pippi joining two of her favorite fellows for lunch with some "Hi Dad" suoop.

"You guys have a queen right?" She said. And opened her drink.

Walter whipped around in his seat and flushed bright red.

"A ruler... yeah, a queen. I hear England has a queen. Where and when I'm from, we still have a king."

Pippi's smile bloomed into the usual impish grin at Walter's blushing. You don't know what she's thinking, but she probably has the wrong idea.

"Uh huh." *sip* "So what are you two scallawags talking about." *sip* "And will it end in more detention?"

"Not this." Walter latched onto the opportunity for a subject change. "But I did find out that bouganvillea is a fast-growing thorny vine.

"Hey Pippi, you're strong, right? What do you think about some sort of contest of strength between you and another student? It would fit in well with the race Yuffie and I are planning."

"Well yes. I am quite strong. It has been said that I am the strongest girl in the world... But after spending time around here I think mebbe I must admit to simply being the strongest girl in MY world."

"Yeah, it's hard to tell around here. Yuffie and I are going to race, we're thinking about getting some people to compete with magic. An old fashioned strong man... errr... strong person competition is usually a good draw."

Pip waves. "Hey Pippi, how have you been?" He looks thoughtful. "I think there's a chess set somewhere that has a quee," he says, not sure if Walter wants to reveal the details of his nightmare to anyone else.

"Ohhh chess!" *sip* "Never played."

Pip scratches the back of his head. "A ruler? Huh. And this ruler was dangerous to you?"

He rubs his chin. "Think it was, I dunno, a premonition or something?"

"A premonition of shiny shoes and a ruler?" Walter digs at the surface of the table with his fork. "Nah, I'm just having weird dreams. I mean, I hunt vampires - what's scary about dress shoes and a ruler?"

Pip shrugs. "I dunno. What's scary about a fourteen-year old in a butler's outfit who has some wire around with him? Underestimating people's dangerous, ya know?" he takes another bite of his food. "But if you don't think it's a big deal, it's probably not. I mean, dreams are weird. they usually don't make a lot of sense. Your brain probably just started a fear response for some random reason. Hell, maybe you thought of shiny dress shoes because you wear shiny dress shoes."

"It's just a dream. I'm not a witch or a psychic." Walter pushed his tray aside and pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his waistcoat, passing it to Pip after grabbing a cigarette for himself.

"It was probably just to remind me that I haven't polished my shoes in a couple of days."

Pip lights up his cigarette and nods. "Sort of a 'inner butler' reminding you to not slack off here, right?"
