Mac waits after class, wiping his face with a towel.

Angel hung back after class. "Not to sound kinky or anything, but is this when we get to play with swords?"

Duncan grins fiercely. As he moves to get the weaponry, he notes Parker. "Hold that thought. As soon as she's done kicking my ass, you can have your turn."

"No problem," Angel said. He busied himself with some Tai Chi to stay limber while he waited.

He returns after Parker, wincing a bit once from the last hold he had her demonstrate and then fine. He picks up a well cared for katana and assumes a defensive stance, balanced and waiting to see how Angel will proceed.

(And OOC, here I beg your pardon, because I'm a bit slow on choreography detail.)

Angel noticed that, at least as far as the stance went, Duncan seemed to know what he was doing. "Have a preference on which sword I use? ~~Assuming there's more than one katana to choose from~~"

[ooc: No prob. Not like I know sword fighting. ;) ]

"The one whose balance you're comfortable with."

Angel took his time testing the available swords. He finally picked one that he liked, then went back to face Duncan.

"Been a while since I used a katana," he said. It wasn't a complaint, just friendly chatter.

"No problem. Just don't cut off any parts. It'd upset the principal."

"Do m'best." Angel gave him a salute, then attacked. Nothing vamp-fast or fancy, just getting a feel for who he was up against.

Duncan counters, then presses a quick attack, pressing slightly to see what Angel will do.

Angel's reflexes are quick, but his form isn't as good as it has been or could be. He manages to deflect, but if he didn't have the vamp thing on his side he probably wouldn't have been able to.

Mac holds up a hand for a pause. He demonstrates the proper form for the counter, and he asks Angel to run it with him again, slowly.
(Need to go sleep, Darvocet kicking my ass. More tmw?)

"Mr. MacLeod?" Parker was just tighting the belt on her gi, and she paused to bow to him as she entered the gym. "I'm here for my judo lesson."

He bows back properly. "All right...." He gestures toward the mat. He asks several questions to get an idea of what she knows, and demonstrate the next logical set of holds in the cycle, letting her practice on him.

It's really been too long since she's done this, in Parker's opinion. She notes the moves, and copies what Mr. MacLeod does, but she's fighting her kick-boxing moves back for the first fifteen minutes. Then the judo starts to come back to her.

Her body remembers, but it's still difficult. "Damnit, damnit, damnit...."

"You can't do everything at once, and I'd guess this isn't all you've been practicing. Be patient with yourself."

"Okay. Okay." She lets out a slow breath, focuses, and re-centers. "I get a little too intense, sometimes," she admits.

Then she goes through the holds, at about half-speed, and it starts to flow. Patience is *not* her virtue, but she wants this for its own sake, so she will do it right.

"Right." At a break, when she's drinking water, Parker asks, "You could tell I'd been practicing other stuff?"

He shrugs. "Seemed like it, and it would be smart. If I were picking a first discipline for you, judo wouldn't be it. Lots of holds and wrestling, even given the kicking. I'd think more aikido."

She swallowed another gulp of water. "Why aikido? More punching?"

"Hah. No. If all you want is more punching, the bag's that way." His voice is teasing, not seriously rebuking. "Aikido's more balance and how to use force, especially if you have a larger opponent."

Parker wiped off her mouth, and re-capped the bottle. "Hunh. Yeah, that sounds like what I want. I started the judo because it was what my dad found for me, when I said I wanted to study martial arts. I picked up the kick-boxing later, and its hard to reconcile the two."

He nods. "When you're farther on with one study, it's easier to reconcile different styles. Right now, when it's still foundational work, it's confusing. Even tai chi has a martial aspect--one of those eighty year old grandfathers out in the park? Likely fully capable of kicking someone's ass if they had to. What I'd do, in your shoes...look at the different schools. Decide what suits your approach in general. Study that. I can't promise to know everything, but odds are good I have some experience in the major schools, and I'm happy to help you with whatever you pick."

"Thanks." She stood, and stretched. "I hate to think I've wasted time, but... Maybe this is a good time to re-think what I want from it, when I'm not in larger class, or competing."

He shakes his head. "You *haven't* wasted time, not by any means. It might not be your ideal discipline right now, but you have definitely learned and still can learn things from judo. Another might be better suited to you, but this one isn't useless."
