Library, 1/09

Angela isn't sure whether she's more frightened by the fact this is her first time opening the library, by the new students, or by the Librarian.

Her stomach is a mass of butterflies as she turns on the lights and takes a place behind the checkout desk, braced for the onslaught.

"I avoid literature like the plague," said Janet. She made a disgusted face. "I like a good book, but I don't want to analyze it." She frowned. "You haven't heard of the doppelganger effect here? Have you met Aeryn, Vala, John, and Cameron yet?"

OOC: Oh, I totally get it. I have the same issues!

"I've met Vala, Aeryn and Cam." She stopped for a second. "Wait, are Vala and Aeryn twins? I met Vala at the welcome and Aeryn yesterday morning. But I was so tired ~~IC and OCC~~ that I never realized they must be sisters."

Janet shook her head. "They're not twins. They're not even from the same ~~planet~~ place. They're just completely identical, except for Vala's blond streak. Same with Cameron Mitchell and John Crichton." Janet shrugged. "No one knows what's really going on, but the leading theory is that they're from alternate dimensions. Looks like you and one of the freshmen are doppelgangers as well."

"That's right." She said, slightly bewildered. "They couldn't be twins because Vala's from Colorado and Aeryn's from another galaxy. And that still sounds weird to me. She told me when we were talking yesterday."

"There's someone on campus that looks like me? What's her name?"

"Someone from another galaxy sounds weird to you?" asked Janet. "I guess you get used to it fast. Actually, Aeryn's one of my roommates, and Vala and I both transferred in from Colorado Springs High School together."

"Isobel, actually," said Janet. "Isobel with an 'o.' How do you spell your name? She prefers to go by Izzie, though, and she's younger than you are."

OOC: I hope you got the two year old to sleep finally!

Isabel shook her head. "Well it sounds weird in the sense of 'she's from another galaxy - oh that's nice', as opposed to just being weird. God I hope that makes sense."

She rolled her eyes. "You have to understand though, in Roswell, there's always alien conspiracy folks running around. They're usually pretty strange. Now to come here and find out they're right? My world view is slightly skewed. ~~Well no it's not, I actually wonder if I'm related to anyone here.~~"

"I'm Isabel with an 'a'. I mostly go by Isabel ~~and will do that here just to keep the confusion to a minimum. I mean same actor is one thing. Same actress and the same character name?~~ though.

"Colorado Springs High School was pretty normal," said Janet. "~~It was actually before that I had alien coworkers.~~ My world view managed to right itself eventually, though. I think the alien conspiracy folks would bother me. Honestly, it's not like the government ~~is actually hiding a top-secret program and covering up the existence of aliens and so the conspiracy nuts are all right.~~ is really hiding anything."

"I think you'd like Izzie," said Janet. "She's nice, if a little nervous sometimes--but I think that's mostly to do with being in a new school. ~~Yeah, that's a little weird, isn't it?~~"

OOC: Oh, God. I hate those nights. Tonight my son was Mr. I Want To Throw Tantrums For No Reason. What time zone are you in, BTW? I'm in CST.

"They're pretty nuts, but they bring tourist dollars to town so that's a good thing for folks like my friend's dad. He runs an alien themed diner. Silly but some of the best food in town. ~~Well we aliens are hiding (in plain sight) since the goverment would like to dissect us.~~

"I'll have to meet up with her at some point. I wonder if she's going to be as surprised as I am? ~~She had one hell of a shop class when she met my roommate.~~" Isabel smiled. "I understand being nervous. I was when I walked into the welcome party. But everyone's done a great job of making me feel welcome."

[occ: Yeah, she goes through stages. Right now she's in this, I don't want to go to bed stage where she fusses, whines and cries until you bring her out to sit with you for a bit. Then after 10 minutes of togetherness she'll lay down and go to sleep. For awhile. Usually until she loses her lovey and can't find it in the blankets. I'm going to velcro that thing to her hand.

BTW, if I fade for a few? I'm in the midst of a big scene where Angel finds out Isabel's an alien. ]

"Sounds like your friend's dad runs kitsch heaven," said Janet. "Was there an area for souvenirs as well?" How had she missed a place like that when she'd been called to Area 51? ~~Only the evil aliens. Or possibly if we'd found one already dead. Not everyone in the government automatically assumes alien = science experiment.~~

"Probably," said Janet. She smiled sympathetically. "But I'm sure she'll get used to it too. And I'm glad to hear you're feeling welcome. Just about everyone at this school has been great."

OOC: Oh, dear. What a fun stage. And fade for as long as you need. I may be going to sleep myself soon.

"It was. But they made great burgers. I helped out there for a single afternoon but I couldn't do it again. Something about the antennae he made us where was just a little to demeaning." She grinned, "There were no souveniers at the Crashdown, but my other friend's mom ran a gift shop with every tacky alien novelty ever."

She glanced at her watch. "I'd better get to class. First impressions and all that. It was good talking to you!"

Janet just laughed at the description of the antennae, held out Isabel's library card for her, and waved at her as she left.

It's an OT3 fic. But there's no smut. Lots of angst instead, but I do promise a happy ending. I was cruising along on it, for me anyway, doing about 1000 words a day. Then I got accepted. Oops....]

OOC: Oooh, but it's Who OT3. And yeah, the game is sort of a time suck. But fun.
