Library, 1/09

Angela isn't sure whether she's more frightened by the fact this is her first time opening the library, by the new students, or by the Librarian.

Her stomach is a mass of butterflies as she turns on the lights and takes a place behind the checkout desk, braced for the onslaught.

[OOC Note: You do need a card to use the library. Might as well take care of it today. OCD threads are here.]

"I missed the cake in the crowd. And never really made it past the General conversation/surprise thread." She held out her hand, "Nice to meet you Parker, Isabel Evans."

Prker shook her hand, smiling widely. "You got me the candle! Thanks, it was lovely! Exactly the kind of thing I'd buy for myself. And you certainly didn't have to bring a gift, since you didn't even know me. How did you get shanghai'd to my party, anyway?"

"I'm glad you liked it. I couldn't not bring something to the party." She laughed, "My mother would have reached out and smacked me all the way from New Mexico. 'You never go to a party without a gift'. She's pretty big on good manners and all that, so I'm pretty much indoctrinated at this point. I was wandering the hallways and found Jaye. She said it would be fun."

"Ahh. Jaye has talked a lot of people into trouble with the words, 'it could be fun,' but I'm glad you had a good time anyway." Parker shook her head. "New Mexico? What part? The desert, or the mountains? We've got a whole Colorado contingent from Springs that might be close to where you're from."

"It was fun. I got to meet some nice people." She waved her hand in Janet's direction.

"Unfortunately, I'm not from that end of the state. I'm from down in the desert, Roswell to be exact." She might grimace slightly as she says it.

Parker nodded at Fraiser. "Yeah, Fraiser's a cool person to know. She's the one that kept our ex-boss in line, last semester." Parker bit her lip in amusement as she noticed Isabel's expression when she said 'Roswell'. "I won't make the standard jokes. I promise. I'm sure you've heard them all anyway."

"Oh I've heard them. Although since coming to Fandom they've taken on a whole new meaning," she said without a trace of irony in her voice.

"Heh. I'll bet. So how many aliens have you met so far? Most of them are pretty cool, from what I've seen." She grinned. "Although between the mutant, alien, demon and other possibilities, it's impossible to take anything for granted when you talk to someone."

Re: Socializing

Isabel thought about that mental list she'd been keeping. "So far I've only met two, I understand there's more. But I've also met a dragon, a demon, a shapeshifter and a vampire." She paused, thinking for a moment. "I've also been warned about zombies, a giant squid, and gremlins."

She shook her head. "And I never ever thought I would ever say something like that and mean it."

"Yeah, the brochure completely lies. Hmmm." Parker cocked her head. "I need to say why we even bother to go here, don't I? Positive things-- they really don't pay attention to the drinking age much, so if you drink, yay. If you don't? There's usually someone making an entertaining fool of themselves at least once a weekend. No *real* curfews, as long as you're discreet. The teachers are almost all good to fantastic. Most of the students are quite cool, and the clubs are first-rate if you're into certain things. And every once in a while, there's a miniature giraffe to brighten your day."

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Isabel laughed, "Well I don't drink so that's not really an issue. Entertaining fools are always fun. I haven't had to worry about curfew yet, and given the list outside the bathroom, I don't think it's going to be an issue at this rate. I haven't had a class yet so I don't know about my teachers. Everyone I've met has been great so far. I haven't been to a club meeting but I am running for sophomore class representative. And I haven't seen a minature giraffe yet but I wouldn't be surprised to see one at this point."

"Oh god, that was a ramble wasn't it?", she asked, shaking her head.

Parker grinned. "The trick is to keep talking as if every sentence was life-or-death important."

"And you never know, the incoming class might have a guy or two for you," she said, quirking her lips. "And you're running for sophomore class rep? Good for you! I was afraid no one would be interested, and the Principal would just appoint someone to Council. That never works out well."

Re: Socializing

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm ashamed to admit I haven't met that many of the new people, there was a guy named Peter. He's a sophomore as well." Isabel shrugged. "Besides, I had to watch my brother due this whole tortured romance thing last year. I have no desire to go through something like that." Inwardly she sighed, it's not like she's willing to get close enough to someone to let them know the truth anyway.

"I've always been involved in stuff like Student Council. It just made sense to continue here, especially since it's starting over." She stopped and looked at Parker closely. "Wait, aren't you running for Junior Class Rep?"

Re: Socializing

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
"We have tortured romances in clusters. Usually I sit in the peanut gallery and critique give it a pass." Parker shrugged, then grinned. "Yeah, I am. Do you want any help, pointers, extra poster board?"

Re: Socializing

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I think I'll join you in passing I need to find a hottie of my own to have great but entirely casual sex with. on the tortured romance. Trust me, if you had seen what my brother and his girlfriend went through." She shuddered, "The angst could kill you."

"Extra poster board might be good, if you have it to spare. I need to get some more posters up this week. Can I ask what you interested in addressing on the Council?" Isabel asked. "They mentioned restarting a safe walk program at the meeting last night."

Re: Socializing

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Agh. Angst. Emo. You'll find a lot of that around here, too. Some people thrive on it." Parker made a face. "The champion is either Hamlet, on the sixth floor, who works the Goth angle, or Angel, who takes it to a whole other bizarre place."

"The safe walk's always been a good idea. The island's great, but it has problems. What else-- well, a class trip to somewhere, possibly Paris? A lot of people want that. Maybe four or five days. We'd have to get money for it, and line up chaperones, but especially for the off-world students, I think it would be great."

Re: Socializing

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
"I haven't met Hamlet, and only met Angel briefly at class sign-ups. He seemed nice enough."

"Paris would be incredible. I've traveled some, but only in the States. I would love to go. Besides, it would give me a reason not to go home on break. If I don't see my brother until June, I'm not going to miss him." She made a face. "Well, at least not that much."

Re: Socializing

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Angel's uh, different. They mentioned the vampire thing, right?"

"I'm an only child, but hey, if you need an excuse to ditch the family, I get that." Parker grinned. "And there's other things. I'm thinking of doing a survey to find out what the voters want. Just to see what needs to be worked on."

Re: Socializing

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"It's been mentioned. But I was told he's okay now? I get the impression there's a story there but I haven't pried. He'd better be okay. He just learned the OMG! Isabel's an alien."

"Yeah, you love them but you don't necessarily have to like them all the time." She grinned back at Parker. "A survey sounds interesting, I'm sure there's a lot of different needs around here. Would you need any help with that? I mean, if... No, when we both get elected, we're going to have to work together anyway, right?"
