Library, 1/09

Angela isn't sure whether she's more frightened by the fact this is her first time opening the library, by the new students, or by the Librarian.

Her stomach is a mass of butterflies as she turns on the lights and takes a place behind the checkout desk, braced for the onslaught.

[OOC Note: You do need a card to use the library. Might as well take care of it today. OCD threads are here.]

"Hey, Mac," says Janet, taking the application and glancing over it. Good. Mac wasn't a Chosen One. "How's the first day of classes going?"

"Not too bad really. I haven't got lost yet, and that's something in itself", Mac responds with a grin. "I see you have the fun job of going through all of these forms?"

"It's not too bad," said Janet. "The school's pretty big, but you learn your way around fast. The forms won't be tough to process. I did most of the ones at the start of last semester myself, so I could issue library cards in my sleep. What classes do you have?"

"Tedious but easy jobs, better than tedious and requiring concentration I suppose." She then digs out some paper from her pocket to check her classes. "Today, only Biology and Sociology of the Paranormal. I dont exactly have a packed schedule which is quite nice." tucking the paper back into her jeans, she continues, "I hope I get good teachers."

"I have no idea what Sidle's like," says Janet. "I've never taken a class with her. She seems nice, though. And I think Grissom's pretty highly regarded by the students. And a light schedule is always a good thing. Mine's a little packed, though."

Janet frowns. "Has anyone warned you to stay away from Locker 327 yet?" she asks.

"I think that to start with, sticking to the minimum three is a good thing, at least until I get used to everything."

"Locker 327." Mac pulls a face, "yeah, I heard that avoidance is the best tactic. Marty took a few of us on a tour on the first day, it was one of the highlighted points. Its been added to my 'To avoid' list, along with Gremlins and Zombies."

"Absolutely," said Janet. "You can add during the add period, or take more next year, if you want."

"I tend to avoid that section of the hallway," said Janet. "Zero, one of the other library assistants--" She pointed over at a girl with pink hair. "She went in and I think I heard something about ending up in medieval Scotland. I don't think the medieval Scots reacted too well to her hair color.

"I'd imagine they might not. Although didn't medieval scots put blue hair streaks in sometimes... or is my history worse than I realised?" She pauses, appearing to consider her statement. "Anyway, it's encouraging that she got back in one piece."

"You're thinking of woad," said Janet. "It's a fascinating hallucinogen, chemically speaking. They actually painted it on the skin, where it--" She stopped and grinned at Mac. "I'm a geek. Oh, Zero's pretty tough. I almost feel sorrier for the medieval Scots."

"Ah, well I was nearly there." She grinned. "No worries, I'm a geek too, just not when it comes to history. You ever have any computer troubles though, and I'm in my element."

"Well, thank you for sorting the card for me. It'll definitely be useful once term gets going."

"Have you met Parker's friend Broots yet?" asked Janet. "He could give you a run for your money. Actually, my interest in woad is more biological, but I learned the historical reference while studying how the chemical interacts. And I'll remember you if I have a problem with my computer."

"Yeah, you'll have final papers." Janet grinned. "And the library's actually a pretty fun place to be."
