Yuffie finally decided to brave the cafetria. She didn't want to spend all her money on buying food, and it couldn't be all that bad, right? Just as long as someone else eats it first, right?

She nearly walked back out the door when she saw the...chef? It had to be the chef, right? What the hell was he? But she got into line, still staring at the chef as she grabbed a sandwich and some cookies. She only looked away when she turned to look for a seat.

After getting her lunch, Kiki glances about the cafeteria and spots a new girl sitting by herself. Crossing over, Kiki pauses at the table, gesturing with a free finger under her tray at an empty chair. "May I?" she asks.

Yuffie looked up, nodding eagerly. "Sure! It's totally lame to sit by yourself." She turned her attention back to her meal. She hadn't worked up the courage to actually *eat* it yet. "So, ummm... what exactly *is* the chef, anyway?"

Kiki sets down her tray and sits. Draping her napkin over her lap, she says thoughtfully, "Chef is... um, well...Chef. I think he's from Sweden. Or Switzerland? Maybe it's Swaziland. I'm not exactly sure. But he's good at what he does - as long as Das Schnitzel keeps him in line."

Kiki spears some lettuce with her fork. "Das Schnitzel," she explains matter-of-factly, "is his chicken and second-in-command. Oh, where are my manners? My name's Kiki. I'm a sophomore."

"Right. The Chef is from... Swedenland or something, and the chicken is Das Schnitzel." This Swedenland must be a very weird place. "Oh, and I'm Yuffie, I'm a freshman- one of the new kids." She picked up the sandwich and took a small bite, waiting to see if anythign would happen. At least it seemed to taste decent.

"Nice to meet you," Kiki answers, taking a healthy bite of her salad. "The food is really pretty good," she assures Yuffie. "Chef's food is mostly safe, too - although there was one day when it caused everyone who ate it to break out into singing ABBA tunes. Anything like that wears off pretty quickly, so I wouldn't worry too much."

Kiki, evidently, is not worrying at all, given the satisfaction with which she's eating her salad.

Yuffie nodded, taking another bite of her sandwich. It actually was prtty good. "Yeah... and it beats paying in town all the time for food... and who's ABBA?"

"A musical group," Kiki answered. "Kind of pop-rock-disco, if I had to explain it. I wasn't really sure myself, until I found it coming out of my mouth every time I tried to talk. I heard they're also from Sweden, so maybe it's a cultural thing for Chef."

"Eh, I'll just let people eat the food first, then." Yuffie grinned. "So, how's you classes so far?"

"Considering I haven't had any yet, great!" Kiki laughed. "I do have my first this afternoon - Magical Theory, with Professor Calendar. How about yours?"

"Shop was cool, though I wouldn't drink the coffee I made. Grossness." Yuffie gave a thoughtful look. "I wonder where those lumps came from...."

Kiki chuckled. "I'm on coffee duty for Poetry class, myself. I don't drink it, though." She swallows a spoonful of soup. "Some people will drink anything that even vaguely resembles coffee, though. What else other than shop are you taking?"

"Well, I think most of the problem was the coffee machine I made involved halogen lamps and a sand shifter." Yuffie bit into a cookie. "The mocha hazelnut coffee I had the other day was good, though. And I'm taking Art history, music, the dinosaur class, and the Arthur legend class. What about you?"

Kiki raised her eyebrows. "You made your own coffee machine? Ok, I'm impressed. Other than Magical Theory, I'm taking Poetry, basic math, and anthropology - which I also have this afternoon, right after Magic."

"Well, more like I managed to make something that almost resembled coffee out of what I could find in the junk pile, but yeah. I think I'm going to like that class...you know, as long as I don't have to eat anything that he might have us cook in the future." Yuffie took another bite of her sandwhich. "Sounds cool."

"Still, skills like that do have to come in handy at times," Kiki nodded appreciateively. She drained the last of her soup. "Other than having you rummage through the scrapheap, how's the professor for shop class?"

"Oh, he sees pretty cool, even when he was trying to get his TA to drink the coffee. I think he was just kidding, though." Yuffie finished off her sandwich. "He was chlucking at her."

Kiki grinned, munching on her cookie, and glanced up at the clock. "Ooops, I should get going," she said. "I don't want to be late for my first class! Especially magic." She stood up, picking up her tray.

"It was great to meet you, Yuffie," she said, "and glad to hear you're settling in just fine."
