Library (12/20/05)

Janet ran towards the library. She'd overslept, and it looked like no one else had gotten it open yet. She flipped on the lights, unloaded the food from last night's shopping trip with Parker, made sure that no one but library staff could get to the food, and sat down to start eating while she finished up her Classics project.

Parker nods. "Work crisis?" she guesses. "My dad's cancelled a few things for those."

Jake nodded back. "It's happened before. Dad likes to keep me out of the way." He pouted a little. "Although I could totally help, if he let me."

"My dad expects me to read the annual reports and summarize them. Talk about boring." Parker made a face. "Although it does mean I can keep up with the cocktail party chit-chat with the executives. And when I go to work there, I'll be prepared. What's your dad's company do, anyway? And how did you want to help?"

"Couriering for the rich. Around now is when people start panicking because they've forgotten to send their secret paramours diamonds and whatnots," Jake said. "And of course, there's the last ditch attempt from various governments to look good in the new years reports and such. And I could totally handle couriering diamonds, you know." He pouted a little at his father's lack of faith. "Hey, what does your dad do?"

"Ahh." Parker thinks the Centre's used similar services, although sometimes, it wasn't entirely for legal purposes, probably. "My dad's company is in research. Biotech, mostly. Some weapons design work for the DoD, things that required advanced computers. A lot of medical research, cures for cancer, heart disease, the meds the work with new treatments. It's all interesting, if not something I'd want to do myself. But keeping the money flowing and the right people working is my dad's thing." She sighs. "He expects me to be CEO by the time I'm forty."
