Library (12/20/05)

Janet ran towards the library. She'd overslept, and it looked like no one else had gotten it open yet. She flipped on the lights, unloaded the food from last night's shopping trip with Parker, made sure that no one but library staff could get to the food, and sat down to start eating while she finished up her Classics project.

"Done, done, done. ~~Now that I've handed in my Spanish paper.~~ And I've already got my grades for Speech and Ethics. Both A's." Parker scowled. "Although I think we all got A's in Speech because Professor Cregg is in the hospital. God, I hope she's going to be okay."

Angela snorts at the mention of ethics. "Yeah, I think Ms. Maclay is scared of you or something," Angela says. "She gave me a C, and poor Rory got a D. I mean, I've gotten C's before, but I didn't expect one in a class like that."

"Rory got a D? That's ridiculous," Parker said, frowning. "She did all the work up until that stupid class on rape. She should at *least* have had a C, but I'd think a B with make-up work. And I would've thought if anyone participated and did the work, they'd get a B, hands down, so I'm surprised you got a C too." She rolled her eyes. "And if I got an A because she's scared of me, that's even more stupid. Although I doubt it's true." Scowl. "Mostly."

"Okay, maybe it's not that she's scared of you," Angela concedes. "But it's ... random, like she graded by throwing darts, or something. And yeah -- Rory got a D, and she's, like, in love with school."

"I think I did everything she asked for, but I might have flaked on something. But still. It's weird."

"Hunh. Are you guys thinking of appealing the grades? Maybe you can ask for make-up or extra credit, or something. It's not too late until the grades are sent out, right?"

Rory actually tuned in at this point.

"Yeah, I'm sending out a petition to get the grades stricken from our records," she sighed. "Because they have to acknowledge it. I mean, did you see that Veronica got a D? And she missed like, one class. And don't even get me started on my grade."

Parker shrugged. "I saw I was at the top and quit looking. But Mars got a D too? What the heck for? I *know* some of those people missed more classes than she did. That's so odd. At the very least, an explanation of her grading scale seems in order."

"Veronica was there for almost every class. I missed the last two - and y'know, I walked out of one." Rory shrugged. "It makes no sense. I can't tell how Tara did the grading."

"I'm thinking she threw darts," Angela volunteers, then rubs her nose. "Or else she was grading based on how much people agreed with her, or something, but that's so wrong."

She sighs. "Emo-closet kind of wrong, maybe."

"I agree," Rory nodded vehemently. "I think she's grading subjectively - like, how 'right' people were, or something. And you can't do that with Ethics."

"Considering I walked out of one class too, spent one in the closet, and completely messed up that master-slave thing by winding up in the clinic, I don't think it's the level of agreement. But damn if I know what it was," Parker said, at a loss. "Who else got A's?"

"Angel did," Rory said pensively. "Um, Callisto got a B, I think. Logan outright failed. So did Quinn."

"Logan was barely there, but Quinn? She tried. I know the girl's not a philosopher or a physicist, but she put effort into that class." Parker frowned. "And damnit, Callisto got extra credit for the master-slave revolt, how did she wind up with a B?"

"The other A went to one of the Johns .. Sheppard? I think. I don't know him. 6 failed, and I'm pretty sure he was always there."

Angela scowled. "It made. no. sense. And I don't have time to turn in extra credit."

"Me neither," Rory said glumly. "Is Tara still around? Maybe I could talk to her."

"I don't know," Angela says. "I gave her a Christmas present yesterday and she said she and Shane were probably going out of town for part of break. I don't know when they were going to leave."

She sighs. "I never obsess about grades, but this is just crazy unfair."

Rory nodded. "I do obsess, but I'm not letting myself on this one." She gave Angela and Parker a significant look each. "I have better things to worry about than Tara's cracked grading."

Parker smirked. "Oh. Right. Yes." She tipped an eyebrow at Angela. "Does Angela know why I won coffee and chocolate from you?"

Rory nodded, blushing.

"I'm talking to him later," she said quietly.

"So that's a yes. Hmmm." Parker grinned. "Tell Merlin I said hi."

"Merlin?" Angela asks, cocking an eyebrow. "I mean, code names are fun, and everything, but ... Merlin?"

"There was a thing, last night, and we couldn't use our real names, and Skywalker couldn't come up with anything, soooo-- he's Merlin. Heh." Parker beamed at Angela. "Did I tell you that I have a new xBox?"

"You didn't," Angela said. "And I don't get your segue, but ... if an Xbox is like a Nintendo, which I think they are, that sounds fun."

"What was your code name?"

"They're very souped-up Nintendos, as someone pointed out last night. The faculty lounge had one. Maybe it still does. I wouldn't know." Parker grinned. "And I was Control. Which is not ironic at all."

"Ah." Angela says, grinning as she fits the pieces together. Then: "Once we've eaten even more, could we go back to your room and, um, play with it? Merlin might want to come, Rory."
