After Classics--and a quick trip to visit Daniel--Janet opened up the library, dropped her backpack in a corner, and started finding excuses not to work.

*Zero came into the library and started planting booby traps for the new librarian, dammit started sorting books for shelving. Might as well get the place in order.*

We need t'make a sign about how all books are due back before the end of the semester. Preferably by Friday, I guess, so we'll have time to get things neatened up.

"Good idea," Angela says, grateful for a distraction from ... whatever is going on with Parker and Marty and Angel that she can't even hope to understand. "Do we have, like, posterboard, or should we just do it on the computer?"

We usually just stick a piece of computer paper with our scribblin' on it on the door, an' people notice.

The mallet helps with that, I suppose.

"I love the mallet," said Janet. "We need to make a mallet standard equipment for all the library assistants."

"But that would be like if we all started saying swerval," Angela points out. "it's more entertaining when it's just Zero."

"Anyhow, I'd rather arm myself with a slingshot. Allows for more distance."

Yeah, the mallet's a bit of a melee weapon. Ooh, maybe we could all pick our own...not weapons, of course. Library Rules Enforcement Devices.

"Of course they aren't weapons," Angela agrees solemnly. "They're just to back up Dr. Pierson's sword and, um, represent our power. Or something like that."

[janet_fraiser]

"Good point," said Janet. "I'd love to have Library Rules Enforcement Devices. Dr. Pierson would let us have them." She glared at the desk. "But it's not going to be Dr. Pierson next term."

"GRandfather clause," Angela says. "Like, Principal Connor didn't take Zero's mallet under the weapons ban, so she's allowed to have it forever, right? So the new librarian shouldn't take our, um, rules enforcement devices."

[janet_fraiser]

"Ah, yes, the weapons ban," said Janet. She rolled her eyes. "Though you're right in that's a precedent."

Janet looked thoughtful. "So are you going to bring a slingshot in? Should we see what we can get away with?"

Angela bites her lower lip, thoughtful. "I guess I could, yeah. I mean, I've never really used one except as a toy -- I was mostly joking. But as ways to break in the new librarian go, having us all showing up armed on their first day doesn't suck."

Janet snickered. "It would be incredibly funny," she said. "That or we act innocent for a week and then suddenly start acting like we usually do. I don't know if I could keep that up for a week, though."

[chasingangela]

"Us, innocent, for a whole week?" Angela says. "I mean, Zero and I could do it, maybe, if nothing pissed us off, and Rory always seems innocent. But you and Parker wouldn't last an afternoon."

"The weapons are a better idea," she concludes, then points at the circulation desk. "Um, that Wesley guy is here. Should I go talk to him?"

Better you than us. An' he doesn' get his library card until he sings. A lot.

I was thinkin' we all showed up early on the first day back an' glared. A lot.

"We could take glaring lessons from Marty and Cole Turner, they've been doing it enough," Angela says, then squares her shoulders. "Okay. Off I go to meet my doom."

I really need t'have a word with them about that; they're upsettin' the Library. No, no, no. His doom, not yours. Give 'im hell, Chase, that's what we're here for. And to stare at Pierson's arse, of course. *wink*

"It's upsetting me," Angela admits. "I mean, I get why my boyfriend the hit man wouldn't like Phoebe's boyfriend the demon. I get they have anger issues. I do. But sometimes I feel they should just .... get a room or start a Fight Club or something, y'know?"

She sighs, then glances back at Wesley. "I'll go help him. Hopefully in a doom-free way, unless it's funny doom."
