Investigator's Club, the Library -- NFB

After kicking out everyone who wasn't a library aide, a Librarian, or incipient club member, Parker hung a sign on the outside door:

INVESTIGATOR'S CLUB MEETING
PRIVATE

Then adjourned to the counter, where the brownies, drinks, cookies, and fudge were.

Hopefully, more than just Marty, Zero, Janet and the Souled Wonder were going to show.

"The last time I was in charge of security for this school, someone died. Not exactly a great track record. Plus I hate meetings. Isn't this Zero's club? If she doesn't want to do it then I nominate Parker," Marty says rubbing his shin and glaring at Parker.

I've discovered I suck at organization. This should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody who knows me, really.

Marty sighs. "I worked too long on my own in my former job. The whole team concept is new to me. Parker's organized enough rescue missions and pranks since we've been here. Let her do it."

"Not that I'm not impressed by her scary organizational skills, because I am, but do we really want to nominate the woman with the bleeding ulcer to be in charge of this circus?" Xander asked.

"It's not bleeding right now-- but Harris has a point," Parker said, making a face. "I really don't need that big of a target painted on me... hmm." She frowned. "Okay. Having an idea."

"It would exacerbate the ulcer too much," said Janet.

"Don't think I haven't seen you not watching your diet like you should be, Parker." Janet frowned at her. "If she were watching her diet, she might be able to handle the stress."

"But you were good at it before the death! And after!" Alanna is happily munching on a cookie.

"Do you want to be on of our investigating heads, Alanna?" Parker asked. "I'm going to ask Veronica Mars when she gets here too, but she'll probably need back-up some of the time."

"Sure? I can do back-up if it involves physical violance."

"You're gonna ask me what?" Veronica walks in just in time to hear her name.

Parker turned around, and nodded to Veronica. "Mars. We're thinking the club would work better if we didn't have one officer in charge-- but as set of co-chairs, or coordinators, depending on what the problem was. Are you interested in being semi-in-charge of investigations that aren't directly tied to magic?"

"I'm not sure if that will fit on my business cards," she said with a smirk. "But yeah, I'm up for whatever."

"Great. Marty and Alanna, like you heard, would both be happy to do back-up. So if you've got a paper or the flu, you can delegate." Parker looked determined. "This group is *not* going down in flames because one person disappears. You'd coordinate with the magic and science guys if you needed help. And Professor Tick said he'd be happy to be one of our advisors." She grinned. "Thanks. Better you than me."

"How about, instead of a head or pres, we have two or three people who are just coordinators?" Parker suggested. "Look how JA fell apart when their Freaksome Leader left. We don't want that to happen with this club. Co-chairs, or something."

"Rotating coordinators, with someone different in charge based on the situation?" asked Janet. She nodded. "That would work better. Are you thinking of names, or people skilled in certain categories?"

Parker had glared at the crack about her ulcer, but now she was thinking. "Skills, I think. Science, magic, investigation? With any member working with and around any coordinator at any time, as we need different skills?" She took a look around the room, trying to come up with a list.

"Dr. House and Carter or Carson for science; Miss Calendar and anyone who wants to learn, I guess, for magic; Professor Tick and... hmm. Marty? For Investigation?" She shrugged. "Or whoever wants the jobs. I'd be happy to be Secretary or Clearing House or Notekeeper whatever, just as long as I don't have to be in charge of *another* thing."

"How about Veronica Mars?" Angel suggested. "She found me out and wasn't scared to report the truth. She might be good for helping to head the investigative side."

Parker nodded. "She wrote me that she'd be late-- we can ask her if she'd be interested then. Marty's a little burned out at the moment, I think. And hey, he or Alanna can be back-up, if Veronica's swamped. Plus I think she'd have a vested interest in keeping Turner from wreaking havoc."

"I'll play backup to Veronica's lead on investigations. She has more of a talent for it than I do."

"Some good divisions there," said Janet. "How about backups, at least on the student end--in case someone has a paper due, or gets sick."

Parker looked at her speculatively. "Would you like to work with Dr. House, on our weird science, with Carter? Time travel, exotic flus, alien predators, gremlins, yay?"

"I can totally do science-y things," Bridge pipes up, "and I'm can be pretty stealthy, sometimes."

"You and Janet then, I guess, with Carter if she wants to be back-up. We don't have to make it a formal, elected position. This is so late in the term, we'll just say that you guys have those coordination positions from now on, unless someone else wants to volunteer. We'll probably get different 'specialists' depending on the crisis," Parker said, smiling. "And, uh. Yeah. Stealthy." She cocked an eyebrow at him, remembering the moon shoes of the night before.

Sam looked more than a little surprised and halted the brownie on the way to her mouth. "What? I don't think I'm the kind of scientist you're looking for here. I do math and ~~astro~~physics, remember?"

"Not that I won't help, of course, but do you really want me in charge?"

"My only thought is that Fraiser is so much more-- direct? Forceful?" Parker smirked. "That she might be a better candidate. And if you don't want to, you certainly don't have to. Back-up would be great."
