After kicking out everyone who wasn't a library aide, a Librarian, or incipient club member, Parker hung a sign on the outside door:

INVESTIGATOR'S CLUB MEETING
PRIVATE

Then adjourned to the counter, where the brownies, drinks, cookies, and fudge were.

Hopefully, more than just Marty, Zero, Janet and the Souled Wonder were going to show.

"Once," Angel said. "I tried to end the world once and nobody will let me hear the end of it."

Jenny frowned at him. "When did you try to end the world?"

"Couple of months after I killed you," Angel replied with the kind of casualness that any Sunnydale resident would give to a statement like that.

"Oh." Jenny blinked. "Well, then. Glad to hear that didn't work out. The world? Pretty much a fun place to be."

"Buffy stopped me," Angel said. "Got souled, then she sent me to Hell. Which, hey, it's a way to pass the summer, right?"

Jenny shrugged. "Gotta do something to kill the time. So who did the job that time?"

She'd ask him if he'd ever found the back-up disk, but letting Angel knew she backed things up in multiply redundant ways meant letting Angelus know. And that? Was a big no-no.

"Willow," Angel said. "Though I don't know who got me out of hell. The First claimed credit for it but - " he shrugged, letting the rest of the sentence fill in itself.

"Willow cast a spell?" asked Jenny. "Wow, am I outta the loop. Which usually comes from being dead."

"So basically it could be taking credit for someone else's work," said Jenny. She muttered something that could be about face-stealing evil entities being annoying.

"Could be," Angel said. "Wouldn't be unknown for evil to pull something like that."

*jaw drop* You tried to end the world?

"Once!"

Oh. *perturbed look* Could you maybe not do that again?

"That's why I'm here," Angel assured her.

Well, I guess that's swerval then.

"Right, because if it had worked, it wouldn't have counted, since it was just the once."

"News to me. And, joy. This isn't something you'll try again if you get de-souled, I hope," Parker said, scowling at him.

"I'd like to keep our focus on keeping me from being de-souled at all," Angel said. "I think the many reasons why we want to do that speak for themselves."

"He's not getting de-souled," said Jenny, her face determined. "Why the heck do you think I've been making a list of all the naughty folks in town? Got any more names for me?"

"Bel's apparently got something in the works," Angel said. "Parker and Marty both warned me about it."

"He was talking to me in Study Hall this week," said Jenny. "Might be a round of 'check out the new psych teacher,' might be a round of 'check out the new technopagan, can she stop me from yanking the soul out of Angel." She shrugged. "Did Parker or Marty get a hint on what's up? If so, I can hit the 'net."

"Research is all I know," Angel said. "He's got a big hard-on for getting the soul out. Which... okay is a mental image I'm now regretting."
