Investigator's Club, the Library -- NFB

After kicking out everyone who wasn't a library aide, a Librarian, or incipient club member, Parker hung a sign on the outside door:

INVESTIGATOR'S CLUB MEETING
PRIVATE

Then adjourned to the counter, where the brownies, drinks, cookies, and fudge were.

Hopefully, more than just Marty, Zero, Janet and the Souled Wonder were going to show.

Xander's eyes narrowed. "Since when do you even eat?"

Angel looked down at the cookie he'd half consumed. "Since my math final got postponed?"

Xander rolled his eyes. "I meant, Angelus chowed down on whatever, but I can't remember ever seeing you eat anything but red cells."

"That was before I took math."

"Ahhh. True. That would drive anybody to cookies." Xander scowled at himself as soon as the words were out. "That came out much more like I care about your problems than it sounded in my head."

"S'okay," Angel assured him, "I wasn't listening anyway."

Xander opened his mouth to answer that -- and for once in his brief life caught a clue that whatever came out of his mouth next was not going to win the... whatever the hell he was competing for. He snapped his mouth shut again, and settled for a glare.

"Math isn't that bad," said Janet. "What level are you in?"

"Intermediate," Angel said. "It's a little intimidating."

"You need some help with studying?" asked Janet. "Don't be intimidated. They're only numbers."

"Says you."

"I like math," said Janet. "Yes, I'm aware this makes me a freak of nature."

"If you've got study tips I'd love to hear them," Angel said. "So far the best I've been able to do is figure out how few questions I'd have to get wrong in order to fail."

"Sure. I can drop by later and take a look at your notes, maybe give you some hints." She grinned. "How many questions do you have to get wrong?"

"Six," Angel said. "You can see how the stakes are high. No pun intended."

Janet snickered. "And it was postponed until when?"

"Yes, it is," Elizabeth said, reaching to grab a brownie. She smiled sweetly.

"Math wimp," said Janet, sticking her tongue out at Liz.

"Am not. I just have sense. And sanity," Elizabeth replied, sticking her tongue back out at Janet.

"Please," said Janet. "I know you."

"Okay, fine. I have taste."
