After kicking out everyone who wasn't a library aide, a Librarian, or incipient club member, Parker hung a sign on the outside door:

INVESTIGATOR'S CLUB MEETING
PRIVATE

Then adjourned to the counter, where the brownies, drinks, cookies, and fudge were.

Hopefully, more than just Marty, Zero, Janet and the Souled Wonder were going to show.

Elizabeth waved as she entered the library. "Hey, guys," she said, dropping her bag in front of the counter.

"Hey, Liz!" said Janet, waving from where she and Sam were sitting behind the Collections Desk. "How goes the studying?"

Elizabeth pulled a face, and headed to sit with her friends. "It's not," she said. "I'm taking this weekend off as a mental break, else I might go insane."

"Insanity would be bad," agreed Janet. "Any plans for the weekend?"

Elizabeth shook her head. "Nope, nyet, non," she replies. "Nothing at all to do with biology is as far as I've got."

Except for the wormhole equations, but Sam figured that if she mentioned those, she'd get stuff thrown at her.

"We could go shopping for Christmas presents tomorrow," said Janet. "I talked to the librarian. He'll chaperone."

"Why do we need a chaperone to go into town and shop?"

"I was thinking we could go back home and shop," said Janet. "Or maybe Chicago. They have better stores."

"Really? Janet, you're a genius!"

"Now I just have to hope Dr. Pierson did his part of the job," said Janet. "If he hasn't, there will be hell to pay."

Sam shuddered automatically at the look on Janet's face. It was the rabies needle face, and it was still scary. "I hope so, too."

"I know," Elizabeth sighed. "We should probably do something."

"Shopping for Christmas presents," said Janet. "I'm working on getting us weekend passes."

"Janet, have I mentioned recently how much I love you?"

Janet grinned. "Not too recently, no," she said, laughing. "Want to tell me again?"

"I love you," Elizabeth said, grinning. "So, where are we going?"

"Chicago," said Janet. "Fun? There's also the Art Institute."

"Ooh, yes. I've only been there once, very fleetingly," Elizabeth grinned, bouncing slightly. "And the Art Institute's been on my list of places to go for a while. It's a shame it's so cold; I'd like to go on Navy Pier one day."

"I've been mysteriously warned away from Lake Michigan by Daniel," said Janet. "So maybe not Navy Pier this time. But the Art Institute is a must."

Elizabeth snickered. "I wonder why," she said, before shrugging. "The Art Institute should be fun. And, hey, we'll be getting student admission again," she laughed.

"Yo!" Cameron waves, forgetting that he's holding a brownie and spreading crumbs around.

Cameron turns brightly red, his ears colouring as well. He acts as if he didn't hear anything and eats another cookie while scowling down at the plate of brownies.
