Investigator's Club, the Library -- NFB

After kicking out everyone who wasn't a library aide, a Librarian, or incipient club member, Parker hung a sign on the outside door:

INVESTIGATOR'S CLUB MEETING
PRIVATE

Then adjourned to the counter, where the brownies, drinks, cookies, and fudge were.

Hopefully, more than just Marty, Zero, Janet and the Souled Wonder were going to show.

"Okay," Parker said cheerfully, looking around for a spare chair leg. "Hold still."

Angel slumped into a chair. "And where were you with that courtesy before the play last night?

"Re-writing my Languages paper from scratch, here." Parker grinned. "Besides, why would I have deprived the world of 'BEHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!' Not to mention your imitation of the Bing. Heh."

"That's it," Angel said. "I'm stealing your shoes and swiping them with pairs from Payless."

"After you tease me with a homicide and then just sulk?" Parker tucked her feet underneath her as she settled onto a couch. "I think not, O 'Magnificent Poof'."

Angel frowned at the nickname. "When were you talking to Spike?"

Parker rolled her eyes. "So you *do* know him. Tuesday night. Wanted to pass along a message and play Let's Make a Deal." She sobered. "Bel's been talking to witches and shooting off his mouth about getting you de-souled. Soon. *Very* soon."

All signs of humor and, for that matter, buffonery or uncertainty vanished from Angel's face.

"If that's your idea of a joke, I'm really not laughing."

"Wish I were," Parker said grimly. "I heard from another, shall we say, reliable source, that he was also trying for the stupid perfect happiness loophole by playing matchmaker for you with at least one blonde of your acquaintance. He's really hung up on Angelus. It would be sweet if it weren't so terrifying."

"Good ol' Bel," Angel said. "Leave it to him to forget that half the fun of being evil is betraying your so-called friends. Who knew we'd come to regret him having a soul?"

"He does have one, then? So, does a soul make you stupider?" She cocked her head. "Or do you just not want to say?"

Angel made a face at her. "He's half-human. He's got a soul. He's even got good impulses that he can't ignore. Angelus looked down on him because Bel was in love, and showed mercy. But the problem is he's also half-demon and has one hell of a temper."

"So he's got something to prove," Parker diagnosed. "Okay. We need to deal with this particular bit of dumb pretty damn soon. We are *not* doing that spell again if we don't have to. It was a pain in the ass the first time. What would it take to stop Mr. Turner from wanting Angelus back?"

"Shotgun to the head?"

"Much as I like the idea... no." She sighed. "Any idea if Phoebe Halliwell has *any* influence on him, or does that relationship only go one way?"

"Tons," Angel said, "though none that she'll admit to. Bel's devoted to her and if she says jump he'll ask how high. But she's got a huge blind spot where seeing the evil should be. Doesn't see it in Bel, still doesn't see it in Angelus. I don't know if she'd be much help."

You did get photos, right? I'm only askin' for Twitch.

"Many, many many many photos. And Barbossa got video." Parker's smile was blissful. "Happy Holidays!"

Still munching on fudge, Sam whispered, "Remind me to talk to you about pictures later. I had an idea."

"Oooo. Sure. Grab me at the end of the meeting." Parker checked her watch. "A few people said they'd be late, but I should probably start explaining our idea as soon as enough people are here."

"Can do."

*slow, wicked grin* Swerval. When does the DVD go on sale?

"I'm guessing as soon as Barbossa can burn that bad boy to disc." Parker grinned. "Buy one for every person in your family!"

*tosses her head back and laughs* Oh, I will be. No worries about that! I'm just a little afraid some o' the singin' might traumatize some of them.

"Remind to me to find a way to show it in a world without electricity." Alanna remarked dryly from the table she had perched on.
