Creative Writing: Poetry, Lesson Six

Wednesday, December 8, 7:00PM FST

[Professor Chaucer is sitting in his chair reading.]

All right, everyone. The mun I actually bothered to look at a calendar the other day and realized that we have only two more classes after this one until the term ends. So, as I imagine you're all wading through a great deal of material to prepare for end-of-term assignments, today I've decided to give you a little break. Use this class period to accomplish two things.

First, I want you to find two people in the room and ask them each a question about themselves. Get to know your classmates. Feel free to include me if you like.

Second, use the period to work on your sestinas. I'll be here if any of you need assistance, or have anything you need to talk to me about.

***Assignment for next week: Begin reading Alexander Pope's "The Dunciad".***

The following students have two or more unexcused absences. If you have not yet seen me about make-up work for the classes missed, please do so.
[livejournal.com profile] scissors___: two absences, have discussed make-up work
[livejournal.com profile] death_n_binky two absences, have discussed make-up work
[livejournal.com profile] rory__gilmore two absences

Make-up work needs to be handed in to me no later than Next Thursday, December 15.

[OOC: Mun will be AFK nearly all day today. Any discussion with Chaucer will have to take place in slow-play.]

[ETA: Edited due to some RP confusion. Apologies.]

Right, the sestina, Kiki thinks. Marvelous that I went all week without thinking about it, just like my mun. I'd better come up with something quickly.

Edward is here, being very much not absent, and working really hard on the make-up work, wondering whether next thursday means tomorrow or next week.

Zero's mun starts digging around for the sestina she wrote for poetry class last year stares at the toaster in astonishment for a bit before settling in to work on her sestina.

Paige walks in back to being in her good Sawyer loving mood.

She wonders how much he'll freak out at her if she writes a sestina about him, probably quite a lot, but only if he finds out!

Lee arrives early all bundled up and shivering with a fever to let his professor know that he's ill and would like to pick up his assignments.

Angela talks to her fiance the toaster for a while before going to work on her sestina.

Rory quietly approaches Professor Chaucer's desk. "Um, sir, I'm sorry for missing class. I know I don't have much of an excuse, but I've been swamped and..." She trailed off, and smiled. "How can I make it up?"

*DEATH waves cheerfully at the class in a manner that suspiciously resembles jazz hands.*

Ed secretly does Teh Happy Dance because he likes Pope, and thought The Rape of the Lock was very nice, especially the part about coffee. Poetry about coffee is always good.

*Hamlet looks over The Dunciad, and tries to think of a topic for his sestina which his mun will try to write around her five final exams and eight hour workshifts. He wonders if he should write one about how much he hates and wants to stab his uncle, or if that would be too hard to fit to the poetic restrictions.*
