Saturday Afternoon, The Library (the library is closed)

Zero unlocks the door and goes in to wait for Professor Calendar. She starts cataloguing while she waits, for something to do.

Jenny walks into the library.

"Wow, not so crowded now," she said. "Hey, Zero."

Hey, Ms. Calendar. Just give me a second t'finish this up...okay.

*Zero opens a drawer and takes out two pairs of gloves and the key to Special Collections. She puts on one pair of gloves and hands the other to Ms. Calendar.*

You'll want t'have those on before you touch the books. We're not goin' too far inside the door, so there shouldn' be any...unpleasantness.

Jenny looks at the door to Special Collections. "It looks normal. But, hey, so did Sunnydale. What are the gloves made of?" She slips the gloves on and shoulders her laptop case a little more firmly. "If I lose this laptop to Special Collections, you think the school will reimburse me?"

Something occurred to her. "Hey, can I pick up my library card before we go on? I never got back to get it after I filled out the application."

Oh! Squall yes! *rushes to library desk* The last person t'go in there without a library card never came out!

Not sure about the gloves. The box they came in said somethin' about dragonhide, but that can't be right, can it?

Jenny's eyes widen, and she makes sure to slip her library card very securely in her wallet. "You never really know sometimes," she says. "I suppose they really could be."

But Professor the Tick has a dragon--it used to be Kitty Pryde's, y'know, the student that died?--an' I can't imagine anyone wantin' to make gloves out of Lockheed!

*unlocks Special Collections* Now, like I said, we're not goin' far from the entrance, but if the lights go out, run. Fast.

*sticks a note to the door on her way in*

"I'd imagine that there might be more than one kind of dragon," says Jenny. "So we have a dragon at this school? Neat."

"Got it," says Jenny, nodding. She looks at the note, and then at Zero. "So I get the feeling you don't mess around with this place?"

Yeah, it's generally a good idea t'take this place seriously.

I think Professor Pierson left the books in a box or somethin'...

"Libraries? Those I can take seriously," said Jenny.

"Did he label them for us? 'Cat books' or something like that?"

I don' know, I--we sorta had a fight yesterday, so I didn' get a chance to talk to him about this. I just know they're around here somewhere--*stumbles* Ah. Thank you, Library. *lifts the box onto a nearby table* Here we go.

"Let's see what we got," said Jenny, setting her laptop case down. "We get wireless access in here?"

She pulled the books out one at a time and started spreading them around on the table. "He didn't have them in a stack, did he?"

Um, electronics don' always behave right in here...you might have t'go outside to use the computer.

No, they were in a stack when he brought 'em in.

Jenny looked around. "Yeah, I'm thinking I don't want to stress test the magical firewall inside here. At least, not until I pick up a dedicated testing machine."

"Rupert never did it that way," muttered Jenny. "Sorry. Personal pet peeve. Okay," she said. "Pergamum Codex isn't going to do a thing. Those are prophecies. The Watcher's Codex is primarily a research book, I think. Hell's Offspring? What's a student doing with a copy of that?"

That's what I wanted t'know. An' look, this one says it's the Necronomicon, which no one should be walkin' about with. But when I started lookin' through it, I don' think it is at all.

"Let's take a look at the Necronomicon first, then," said Jenny. She flipped it open to a random page.


OOC: What is it actually?

Good idea. If it's a forgery, maybe we can figure out what it was forged from, an' that'll help us out. Right?

(ooc: At one point I was told Four Hundred Ways to Curse Your Lover, which would certainly explain the cat thing.)
