The classroom is empty. There is a sign hanging from the moosehead and there is a folded piece of paper in the moose's mouth. The sign reads:

WORK PERIOD FOR YOUR PROJECT.
I WANT A REPORT ON YOUR PROGRESS NEXT CLASS.

ANGEL, YOU WILL FIND YOUR
ESSAY TOPIC IN MOOSEJAW.

I MADE A FUNNY.

The folded paper simply reads, "Women. Discuss."

Phoebe is now really confused and she glares at Angel.

"Why do you want to kill Cole? He's done nothing but be a friend to you up until now."

Angel was this close to rolling his eyes. "I don't want to kill Cole." There was a hint of emphasis on the name that he used. "But if he tries to desoul me I'm going to have to try to stop him. Otherwise I will start killing people and that's obviously something we'd like to avoid."

She looks at Angel with curious eyes. "The soul keeps you from killing?"

She tilts her head back to look at Cole for a long moment and then she turns back to look at Angel.

"Isn't almost impossible for a soul to be removed?"

"Not totally impossible," Angel said. "And without the soul there's nothing to stop me from killing."

Phoebe looks at him calmly. "With a soul you won't kill anyonw else...or do I always have to be on guard to protect my friends and Cole from you or your anger?"

"I never killed out of anger," Angel said. "I killed because I liked it. Because it gave me pleasure. Because sometimes it was even funny. But not now."

Phoebe looks at him calmly.

"So, if I came to you for help on something and I was alone, you wouldn't hurt me?"

It's obvious that she's trying to feel out the situation. Angelus had hurt a lot of people, but he had also been good to her when they talked. She was trying to see how this version of him was different.

"No," Angel said. "I wouldn't hurt you."

"You are not going anywhere near him alone," Cole said lowly.

Angel gave Bel a look. "Better she be alone with you?"

"She's safe with me," he began, then realized what Angel was hinting at, and his expression grew alarmed. "Don't."

Angel looked back at Bel coolly. "Don't what?"

"Don't go there," Cole snarled. The hands on Phoebe's arms were shaking as he pulled her back toward him. "C'mon, sweetheart," he said, his voice strained. "We don't need to work on the assignment here. Let's go to the library or something."

Angel simply folded his arms and smiled.

Phoebe looked at Cole in worry and confusion. She then turned to Angel.

"What are you implying?"

"Nothing at all."

Cole gave Angel a murderous look. "He's playing mind games, Phoebe. Don't listen to him."

Phoebe looked at Cole in concern. She stumbled forward as his emotions overwhelmed her.

Fear, anger, and worry. And love...Intense love for her.

Cole was afraid, badly afraid. She turned to look at Angel and faltered as that familiar sensation overcame her.

Darkness...hatred...anger...fear...resentment...

Cole...kneeling...

A red-cloaked figure with stupid-looking wings was standing over him.

"Kill them, or you die!

Phoebe made a soft sound in her throat as she fought free of the premonition.

"Phoebe?" Cole said, alarmed, catching her in his arms.

Phoebe leaned against Cole, trying to clear her head.

She looked at Cole and then looked at Angel.

"Vision," she whispered.

She looked at Angel. "What do you think he's going to do?"

"Phoebe, let's go," Cole said, trying not to let his panic show.

"I think he's going to remember that it's a bad idea to do something stupid," Angel replied. "And that not all his promises are worth keeping."

"You don't get to decide which ones," Cole snapped.

"All I'm saying is think about it."

Phoebe squeezes Cole's hand and leans into him.

"Cole doesn't have to do anything he doesn't want to do..." she said softly. "He keeps his word."
