Janet opens the paper carefully and can't control a small gasp when she sees the necklace. "It's beautiful," she says softly, glancing up at Methos. She's amazed enough that most of her defenses are down. She knows what it's mostly meant for, and she'd do it again if the situation came up. "Thank you." She fastens it around her neck for a minute and admires it, but then takes it off and puts it back in the box. "It's too nice to wear around the school every day."
Then a wry twinkle of amusement slips into her eyes. "Don't think this means you get out of reviewing the applications we collected," she said teasingly. "I put the two most promising ones on top."
"I wouldn't dream of trying to wiggle out of it," Methos assures her. He takes the stack of applications. "So by 'most promising' we mean, 'we'll make your life hell if you don't pick them'?"
"Friction. Right. As in screaming matches in the library? That would be bad. Worse than punk music. Not that punk music is bad," he said hastily. "Just punk music in the library. Which is supposed to be a quiet place."
Methos picks up the top application and scans it. "I've got no problem with hiring Angela. She was one of the front-runners in the beginning of the semester when she had to drop out because of other commitments."
Janet's look was entirely innocent. "That might be the case," she admitted. "But seriously, they're the best applications. You can interview them if you want to."

Of course you have free will, Dr. Pierson, and we're sure you can be trusted to make the right choices.
