The Library Is Open (11-28-05)

Janet unlocks the doors of the library, flips on the lights, and gets to work behind the Collections Desk.

Jack Harkness wanders into the library, and then stops, looking around him, confused. He's not set foot in it since Zombie Weekend, and has no clue where anything is.

Parker is twirling on one of her chairs, admiring her new presents very happily. On one twirl, she asks Jack, "Need something?"

"I have to do a report on a famous psychologist. For new, non-crazy non-squid lady psych teacher. Which way to the card catalog?"

Parker stops twirling, and hops off the chair. "Over here. How famous, or any other preferences? Because you can just grab the Psych section, or look it up by name."

Jack grins at her. "I was thinking Kinsey."

Parker rolls her eyes, but smirks too. "Of *course* you were. That ought to be an entertaining report." She flips through the catalog for a bit, frowning, then says, "390's for most of it, 305's for the anthropology bits, and 613's for the medical aspects." She pulls out a card for a general biography (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Kinsey). "This should get you started." She cocks her head. "So how is the new teacher, now that Crazy Squid Lady has disappeared down a drain somewhere?"

"So far she's been nicely... sane. We haven't held class yet, but I went to her office hours last week. She shot down a proposal that Paige and I were putting together -- which was a tremendous relief because it was all about using fear and pain to affect memory -- but she's happy with some of our ideas to redo it. I've got to write a new proposal. It's centered around competitiveness, now, instead of pain." He takes the card Parker hands him. "Thanks. I think this will be perfect. So. How was your Thanksgiving? Any interesting relatives do embarassing things at the table?"

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-11-28 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yikes. But also, whew. I liked Miss Calendar when she came in here, but it's good to know she's sane in the classroom as well. You can't always be sure."

Parker rolled her eyes. "No, no. Just me and my father, who does the Executive Manners thing every single day. I visited with a friend who believes if you stuff food in your mouth with two hands, it's only because your feet don't reach your mouth." She smirked. "How was yours? Did you get to do California with Professor Cregg, now that you're adopted, or whatever?"

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-11-28 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack grins delightedly. "Not quite official, but almost. She thinks the paperwork is going to come through today. And yeah, we went to California. Thanksgiving was -- " he shrugs " -- okay. But the day after we drove down the California coast and talked and hung out and... sorry. I'm babbling. I just... I'm not used to family. And this is a really cool one."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-11-28 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker can't help but smile at his enthusiasm. "That's so great. I'm glad for you. Congratulations, by the way. If I got to be adopted by anyone in the faculty, I'd probably pick C.J. Dream's cool but too weird, and Dr. Pierson might forget to feed me." She cocked her head. "How was that, having him along?"

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-11-28 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack is still grinning fit to split his face. "Well, CJ's the official one, but it's pretty much a given that the Doctor thinks he gets to run my life, too. I need to take some language next semester, just to take classes with Professor Dream. And I'm planning on taking Lit with Professor Chaucer." He glances over at the librarian. "Yeah, it was fine having Dr. Pierson along. He doesn't talk much, does he? At least, not around me. But then I don't know him that well."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-11-28 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Professor Ten is cool-- he comes in here sometimes, and flirts with my boss." Parker smirks. "Who no, doesn't talk much, but when he does, wow, you better shut up and listen. But he really has an incredibly long fuse before you get to that point. And he's good to snark with. Feed him caffiene and don't make him wake up early, and you're usually good."

"I haven't had Lit yet, but still. *Chaucer*. How can you pass that up?" Parker shakes her head, and sobers. "Dream's been-- really helpful, with some problems I was having. He's not the sharing-caring-hugging type, but he's a good guy. Plus, he knows his languages. What would you be taking?"

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-11-28 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dr. Pierson and the Doctor and CJ are really very fun together. Which is nice to see. I didn't think that it was accepted much in this day and age. And Professor Chaucer is really cool, very much aside from being the Chaucer. As for languages... I don't know. Are you taking any from him next semester? We've yet to end up in the same class."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-11-28 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker blinks at the phrasing on 'day and age', wondering at it for a moment, then gets distracted and frowns a little. "Well, it isn't. Which is why none of us here are going to be mentioning it to Dean Bristow. He might pull out some stupid morality clause to tell them that they have to break up, and how stupid would that be?" She shrugs. "I've only seen them all separately, but I'm glad you had fun."

She grins. "If they offer Cat again, I'm taking it. Zero had fun and it's probably the most useful class for *this* island, considering. After that, I think I need to take Asian languages. It'd be fun if you could take it too; and I think Michael might be taking it again. I don't have classes with half my friends, now that Advanced Negotiations meets so rarely."
