Arthurian Traditions Lesson 15

"Feasgar math dhuibh," Camulus says as class begins. "Since the beginning of this class, you've been exposed to several different accounts and interpretations of Arthurian legend, as well as doubtless other movies or books you have watched or read outside of class. Today I'll be introducing your final project. This is a class project, but I will be assigning individual marks based on participation and the work I see in class.

"In short, your assignment is to prepare a brief play. It should take the time of just about one class period. You can pick and choose which aspects of the legend you wish to use, whether focusing on the life of Arthur or the death of Arthur. Some things you might want to consider would be the Christian vs. pagan aspect of the tales, the gender roles especially those of women, the Grail quest, the deeds of the knights, and so forth. You can use outside sources. I expect some effort to be put into props and costumes. I want a complete script and bibliography handed in on the day of your presentation, which will be Thursday, December 8. That gives you just under three weeks to complete it."

He pulls out the class roster and looks it over. "Everyone must have a part, even if as a narrator if you so choose to have one. The current class roster which for all I know is wildly incorrect as I seem to be unable to keep track of my own students is:

Looking a little pale, Belthazor signs in to class and takes a seat.

Belthazor idly wonders if, since he apparently was the only one to arrive for class today, he has to do the project alone.

Camulus is going over his class notes and frowning at his roster, realising that he's never seen some of these students before.

Angel came in before everyone else arrived ~~Possibly with Lee in tow depending on how the wackiness of LJ plays out~~

He hesitated near Camulus's desk. "Um... hi."

Camulus looks up and raises an eyebrow. "Hello, Angelus. Oh, but that's right, I hear that it's Angel now." He looked back down. "Don't worry about the missed classes. I consider "on the run from the law" an adequate excuse."

Angel blinked. "Oh. Um. Thanks." He glanced around, as though waiting for the punchline. When none was forthcoming, he continued. "Um... I was going to ask if you're okay with me being in your class still."

"Why wouldn't I be?" Camulus asks smoothly. "You missed my little demonstration yesterday. I can fully differentiate between dominant intelligences in the same body. Unless of course you no longer want to take the course."

"No, no, I do," Angel said. "I like the topic. Always have. In fact I was thinking - " he paused, Camulus's words catching up to him. A look of cautious surprise shaped his face, as though he'd just received an unexpected compliment. "You - you think I'm a dominant intelligence?"

Camulus waves a hand. "Something like that. Two personalities, souls, intelligences, whichever term you choose. Ka and ba. Same body. That's all I meant by the term." He smirks. "It's a state of being I'm not unfamiliar with myself."

"Dominant intelligence," Angel repeated. He put his hands in his coat pockets, looking pleased. "I like the sound of that." He then frowned, looking at Camulus. "You are? So who's in charge now?"

"I am, of course," Camulus replies. "Before yesterday, my host body hadn't spoken for over a thousand years. His name was Mochta Mor, if you're interested."

"What's his story?" Angel asked. "If you don't mind me being curious."

Camulus sighs and leans back. "To be honest, I can't quite remember. A moment." He closes his eyes for a long moment and seems to almost go to sleep. When he eyes snap open, they flash for a moment before returning to normal. "He was a bard. A good bard. Not a bad warrior, either. He came to my temple when I was looking for a new host. The old one had reached the end of his usefulness. Serendipitous, you might say. I discarded the old one and inhabited Mochta instead."

[[Yay for making up backstory!]]

"Sounds a little like being a vampire," Angel said. He took his hands out of his pockets again. "One more thing we should talk about. Now that I am who I am, there's at least two students in this class who are going to have strong dislike for me. I'd be lying if I told you the feeling wasn't mutual. If that's something you're going to have a problem with, let's deal with it now."

"~~So you're just taking the sexual out of the tension?~~ To be honest I'm surprised I managed to assemble a class who all seemed to like each other," Camulus replies. "If this dislike is going to cause bloodshed or any form of paperwork, I want it out of this classroom and off school grounds. Actually, I don't want it at all. Through no fault of my own, I've actually come to be rather . . . fond," he says it like it's a dirty word, "of my students."

"No bloodshed," Angel promised. "Just saying that group projects might be a bad idea what with at least one of them trying to steal my soul and/or kill me."

"~~But if this is before class how does you know of the existence of a group project?~~ Well . . ." Camulus considers. "If you honestly feel that you cannot work with . . . some members of the class, I'll think of a project that you can hand in seperately. But I must remind you that Fandom isn't a big place. You can't avoid them forever."

[[Aww, just when I was really beginning to enjoy the verging-on-NWS nature of my class.]]

~~He doesn't. He's just guessing at what might happen based on what he's seen in other classes he takes.~~

"Don't intend to," Angel said. There seemed to be something dark in his eyes. "Just not bringing it in here."

Camulus regards him cooly for a moment. "I believe you, what's the phrase, aim to misbehave. Not that it's any of my business. Very well. It's your choice. I'll come up with an essay topic that you can write for me if that's what you want."

~~In all honesty I didn't reread the thread since this morning. I thought it was a single project for each student.~~

"Whatever you want," Angel spread his hands to indicate the wide open possibilities. "It's not about making my life easier, but yours. If me having a soul makes you dislike me so much that you want to kick me out of the class, I'll respect that. I'll miss the class, but I'll respect it. If you'd rather I do an essay, or some other project, I can do that too. Up to you."

"Now that's an odd viewpoint," Camulus drawls. "I was under the impression that possessing a soul was considered a good trait amongst the Tau'ri. Then again, not all of my students are Tau'ri. Angel-" he almost adds the last two letters "-you're my best student. I'm not going to kick you out. I'll have a topic for you next class."

Angel nodded, some of the tension leaving his shoulders. "Thanks."
