Now, I have paired the class up in the following manner – and please move to sit with your partner, or in one case, group of three:

5) John Crichton, Anakin Skywalker, Kara Thrace

For your next assignment – due in two weeks – I want you to write ~~delicious crackfic~~ a fictional story of your own focusing on some aspect of cyborg theory. It must make an argument pro or against human to cyborg and/or android relations (of any kind – political, social, romantic, etc).

By the end of class, I want you to have discussed with your partner the nature of the story you would like to write and whether it is to be pro or against human/cyborg/android relations.

If you have any questions, I'll be at my desk. Now get to work.

Beka saw the assignment and grinned. This would be fun. And she could use a bit of that. Also, she was pretty sure she could count on Cally to forgive her for being an idiot.

"Hey, you," Beka said, sliding into the seat next to her.

"Hey." Cally taps her slightly-chewed eraser against her paper. "So, story, huh? Got any ideas?"

"Hm. Definitely it should be a love story." Beka smirked. "Wouldn't be right, me writing something without sex in it."

"Love story, huh?" Cally jots down some notes. "Okay, so... how are we gonna fit in the cyborgy stuff?"

Thinking of Bel and Phoebe, and maybe of how wrong she'd been about Angelus, Beka said almost automatically, "One of them should be a cyborg. The other should be human." She smiled at Cally. "Let's give it a happy ending, OK?"

"Definitely a happy ending. Sad endings suck." Cally scribbles more notes. "So, one of them, ooh, maybe an android, actually? Like, the person builds them, like that Pygmallownian thingy? And falls in love with what she's created? That might work."

"Pygmallownian? That sounds like something you'd cook over a campfire." Beka grinned.

Thank all the gods for Cally. "Good idea. Needs conflict though. Android comes to life and wants to go 'meet' other life?"

"Ooh, good idea. But it should, like, end with them getting together. Happy ending, you know. Though we might want something more conflicty-wise, then."

"Well, what if the human tries to be more like a cyborg. And the cyborg tries to be more like a human?"

"Oooh, good idea!" Cally scribbles down more notes. "And in the end, they realize all they wanted was each other, the way there were! Oooh! Good one too! You're so smart, seriously." Cally writes down more notes, and beams at Beka. "You're awesome."

Beka grinned wryly at Cally. "All I'm doing is making suggestions. You're the one running with them. So, how do you want to write this thing?"
