Languages of Europe: It looks as though most of you have some experience with French, which is good. If you do not, see me after class.

In any case, we're going to move on to a lesson on French verb conjugations in the present tense. The most common conjugation, of course, is the -e, -es, -e, -ons, -ez, -ent sequence, used in such verbs as nager and manger. But many of the most common French verbs, like aller, etre and avoir, are irregular. [Dream goes on to speak about different regular and irregular conjugations for some time.]

For your homework for Tuesday, I would like each of you to pick one regular and one irregular French verb and list all the verb forms. Extra credit for using the verbs you have picked in sentences of at least four words.

Cat: I am going to permit you to take control of the class for the day. We have reviewed many facets of cat at this point. I am unsure what direction would be the most beneficial to you for continued study. Discuss that among yourselves and let me know; ask me questions if you wish.

Rogue smiles at Dream as she walks into office hours. "I'm sorry I missed class this week." She pulls a letter written on official Xavier's Institute for the Gifted stationary. It explains her absences as an unavoidable and necessary medical emergancy, and is signed "Charles Xavier, legal guardian."

"What did I miss, sir? And, um, I don't have much experience with French, though I'm sure the similarity to Spanish will make it easier for me than for others," she says happily.

Dream gives the note a cursory glance and files it away. He hands Rogue two vocabulary worksheets. "We learned the French alphabet and French numbers to 20 (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/359838.html). Complete these worksheets and turn them in on Tuesday."

"Let me know if you feel at sea in class."

Dream rises slowly from his desk.

"Of course," he says, holding out a thick folder (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/tag/languages) with Archie's name on it. "This should bring you up to date."

"The midterm has three parts -- a written vocabulary quiz, a translation, and five minutes of conversation with me. Let me know when you feel you are sufficiently caught up to take the test."

Archie accepts the folder with a slight twinge of alarm at the weight of it, but he nods at Dream. "If a week from today is acceptable, I'll see to it that I am ready to take the test then."
