Criminal Justice, Class 20, Quiz

[OOC: If you can, please do the quiz by Tuesday at the latest. Class Info Post.]

*The Tick was at his desk. Once everyone was in the class, he handed the quizzes out and gave the instructions.*

"Hello, class! Well, today is your quiz. If you didn't study, don't worry. There are three short essay questions that are mainly looking for your opinions and how you support them. Each answer should probably be at least two or three sentences, but as long as you fully answer the question, your answer can be as long or as short as you'd like. If you have any questions, just ask. Good luck, class!"

1. The Police, Courts, and Corrections are the Three Wheels of the Tricycle of Justice! Which Wheel is in front, which are in back, and why? *Tick had drawn a crude sketch of a tricycle for anyone who didn't know what one was. The basic look of a tricycle should be clear*

2. Vigilanteism. It is against the law. Under what circumstances, if any, is it okay to take the law into your own hands?

3. Betrayal is a powerful motivator, especially when those we care about are the ones enacting said betrayal. It can cause us to lose sight of what is Right and Just, and instead, act on our emotions and impulses.

Imagine that your someone you care for does something to betray you in front of your very eyes. You have the option of reacting in the moment (violently if you so choose) and facing the consequences of Poor Planning and Lack of Foresight, not to mention your own Unjust attitude - or, you can calmly take care of the matter in a way that allows all parties to tell their side fairly...all parties, that is, except perhaps you.

How would you handle this situation, keeping in mind that your personal agenda and Justice must both be addressed and should not conflict?

4. Seriously, how did the noise get called "Doink Doink" in the first place? I use that name since it's all official and I like saying "doink," but it just isn't what the noise is!

Marty glares at Rory as he comes into the room, but says nothing to her as he starts working on his quiz

1. The police are the front wheel. They're the ones that have to investigate the crimes, while the district attorneys prosecute the offenders these are their stories. *doink-doink* and the corrections try to correct them are definitely the back wheels. Without the front wheel of the police, there would be no where for the back wheels to go.

2. When the nature of evil goes beyond the law.

3. Handle it carefully. I tried the other way and it just leads to heartbreak of psoriasis and tears.

4. It came from the SVU commericals on USA. The actor who played the captain called the noise "the doink-doink". I know the old mun for Briscoe. He works at my office and we hang out.

Rory catches Marty's glare, and is initially confused by it...until she remembers Angela.

She narrows her eyes at him.

1. I think the police are in front, because they do all the work. That would lead Courts and Corrections to bring up the rear.

2. If you're Brad Pitt or Denzel Washington or something and they're paying you $20 mil to make a movie about it.

3. I'm not really a hitter unless I'm told to, so I can't see myself being all "I KEEL YOU!!!" and going after them. But I also don't see myself being fair, so I really don't know.

4. I have no idea, omg.

1. The police are definitely the front wheel, because they get to everything first. Courts and corrections are really just support. *stares at the tricycle drawing*

2. Strictly speaking, it never is. Unstrictly, however, I'm totally gonna become an assassin for a little bit on principle or whatever in my other reality, so there you go.

3. Honestly, there may be bloodshed at first. Possibly only bruising. It really depends on the situation.

4. That sound is not *doink*. It just isn't. It's a *chung*

1. The police are in the front, since they're leading the way in the charge of Justice. Which pretty much leaves the courts and corrections stuck in back. Isn't there any way to have a quiz about the Tripod of Justice instead?

2. If the law is in the wrong, or not serving Justice.

3. Poor Planning and Lack of Foresight lead to more troubles in the long run. I'd have to try to get everyone to calm down and talk about it.

4.

Anakin showed up to class embarrassed, cranky, and more than a bit hungover. He rubbed his hands over his eyes and began.

1. The police would be the front wheel of the tricycle of Justice, but all wheels must be pointing in the right direction and of the proper tire pressure or else the ride will be bumpy, or worse of all, go in circles.

2. When the law is no longer working -- if the Tricycle of Justice has tipped over, if you will -- I believe that it might then become acceptable to take it into your own hands with your lightsaber of Righteousness. But the system should be allowed to work in the way it was designed.

3. I wouldn't whack off all of his limbs, set him on fire and leave him to die, if that's what you mean. Thanks for that, Obi-Wan. If I found out someone I knew was betraying someone or something I hold dear, like being a Sith and running a government into the ground on purpose, just to pull an example out of the sky I would contact the proper authorities, like the Jedi Council. My personal feelings shouldn't stand in the way of Justice being served.

4. Either from the USA commercials or maybe the "we know drama" ones? I don't remember.

[OOC: *headdesk* I lose at code today]

1. Since it appears that the front wheel is responsible for steerage, I would say that the Courts fulfill that role; after all, they are responsible for interpreting and determining the laws which the Police must uphold and which Corrections hold as guidelines.

2. At first glance, one might say that in time of war, vigilanteism would be acceptable; however, I would posit that the opposite is in fact true. However, in circumstances when there is immediate danger and simply no time to wait out due process of law, I would say it would be acceptable.

3. I freely admit that my first impulse would be to react in the moment. Planning and foresight are not among my strengths at this point in time, though I fully intend to rectify this.

In all honesty, though, I would likely place my personal satisfaction above the interests of justice.

4. Random vigilante Tonberry?

1. The courts are the front wheel, they are there to represent Justice and bring it into our daily lives. However, without the police, to actually support the courts and actively go out and seek out the criminals, and without the corrections to back her up, Justice would be nothing but a unicycle. Which Justice isn't, she needs all three of her wheels to roll smoothly and not drag into the vile mud that is Crime.

2. When there is no other choice. When the lawful protectors of Justice have their hands full and are incapable of bringing Justice where it belongs. Only then do we have the right to temporarily take matter in our hands and to try to prevent harm from happening. Just as long as our actions are controlled and used to incapacitate the criminal and bring him before the law itself.

3. It would be hard. I would try to put my personal feelings aside and do what the law asks me to do. If I would find that I can't seperate my personal feelings enough, I'd try to find someone to take my place.

4. The player would like to note that she has no clue what you're talking about.

[identity profile] aka-vala.livejournal.com 2005-11-17 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Vala is pouting because everyone else already took all the good answers.

1. I'm going to say that Corrections is the Front Wheel of the Tricycle of Justice, because, while being sturdily supported by the back wheels of Police and Courts, it can run you down and make you very, very sorry and/or dead.

2. When you're wearing spandex? When you are a Force for Righteousness and blue spandex and see a Wrong not being Righted. Sometimes there needs to be a Wheelwright for the Tricycle of Justice!

3. If they betray you in front of your eyes, how is _your_ attitude unjust? I'd totally go get my favoritest Big Blue Superhero to help take care of the problem, as suggested by that assumed guy in that book that I wasn't in class to hear about.

4. I'm with Aeryn... "chung!chung!" comes closer.

Re: Whimsical Extra Credit

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2005-11-17 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Cameron has brought what appears to be a page from his Egyptian Archaeology notes. If The Tick would look closer, he would notice however that something strange is going on. Some of the letters have been moved from their place and the doodles Cam once drew on them are playing and moving around. They even made a seesaw from the line under the title and a capital O.

"Er sir, I would like to have this back later, though. They can be high maintenance sometimes, although they've stopped trying to kill each other."
