A/V - Theatre Tech Club Meeting: OPEN MIC NIGHT

The setup isn't fancy. The stage curtains are closed. There's a single microphone set up on the stage apron and a single spotlight trained on the curtain just behind it. At the back of the theatre are tables of refreshments: carafes of coffee and cocoa and mulled cider and hot water - and the tea bags and sugar and cream and lemon to go with, platters of cookies and brownies and meringues, bowls of chips and pretzels and trail mix, baskets of fruit. On the doors to the theatre are a pair of signs: a simple sign-up sheet for people who want to take part in the event and a large and colorful sign advertising its existance. There are a bunch more of these posted all around the school. Scooter stands just inside the door, waiting to greet people as they show up.

[OOC: This post will be open for play for at least the next 24 hours, even if it only covers four hours of Wednesday evening. Have fun, ok?]

Barbossa signed in with a grin.

Krycek signs himself and Jake in, humming idly.

"For my perdormance, I will be reciting a poem I learned when I was very young.

There was a young man from Peru,
who fell asleep in his canoe,
while dreaming of Venus,
he played with his penis
and woke up covered in goo."

Snickering, Faith leaves the stage at a quick pace, and heads to her room to hide.

Barbossa smiled and cleared his throat, then sang the only clean song he knew:

There was a young sailor
Who looked through the glass,
And spied a fair mermaid
With scales on her island

Where seagulls
Fly over their nests
She combed the long hair
That hung over her shoulders

And caused her
To tickle and itch.
The sailor cried out
"There's a beautiful mermaid,"

A-sitting out
There on the rocks,
The crew came around
A-grabbing their glasses

And crowded four deep
To the rail,
All eager to share
In this fine piece of news.

Which the captain soon
Heard from the watch.
He tied down the wheel
And he reached for his crackers

And cheese which
He kept near the door.
In case he might someday
Encounter a mermaid.

He knew he must
Use all his wits
Crying "Throw out a line.
We'll lasso her flippers."

And then we will
Certainly find
If mermaids are better
Before or be brave

"My good fellows."
The captain then said.
"With fortune we'll break
Through her mermaiden."

Heading to starboard
They tacked with dispatch.
And caught that fair mermaid
Just under her elbows

And hustled her
Down below decks,
And each took a turn
At her feminine setting

Her free at the end
Of the farce,
She splashed in the waves,
Falling flat on her after

A while the crew
Noticed some scabs,
Soon they broke out with the pox
And the scratching

With fury,
Cursing with spleen,
This song may be dull
But it's certainly clean.

Duce slides in, taking a seat in the back. She pulls out a sketchpad and kicks back, idly drawing the crowd.

"Hey Scooter," Duce offered a wan smile, taking the cup of mochastuff and juggling her charcoal pencil to be able to take a meringue, "Thanks. Trips to the hospital always make my stomach feel gross, so I kinda forget to feed it." Nodding at the stage, she says, "Kinda quiet tonight. We have any regulars?"

Duce takes a sip of her drink and blinks, "Boone? Aaron Boone? He's not a student.." She takes a bite of her cookie. "Well, if Krycek doesn't show on his own, I'll text him and make him drag his guitar down here."

"Ah. So not Red's new hire. Cool. He's got the voice for it, but I think he'd look a little out of place here," Duce chuckles. Nibbling her cookie, she sips her mochastuff. "Alex definitely has to be here," A small smile played around her mouth, "He's got this streak of exhibitionism going these last few weeks.."

and if only she knew the whole of that..

Duce smiles wanly, "And you missed him at the leather show.. That was.. interesting."

Duce nodded, "I was handed a full crew for it, which was.. uh.. interesting. Draco and Bridge did a good job, though."

"What the hell are we even singing?" Jake asks Krycek as they take a seat. "And have I mentioned yet today that I hate the newspaper?"

Re: JOIN THE AUDIENCE HERE

[identity profile] krycek-rat.livejournal.com 2005-11-17 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have no idea. I haven't really worked on anything," he replies, leaning his guitar against the seat between his legs. "And yes. Only everytime you open your mouth."

"Good." Jake leans back in his seat, sighing. "So. Song. Do we even know any of the same ones? Does your world have Lila Cheney? Or Alison Blaire? Or.." he shudders. "Sugar Kane?"

Krycek eyes Jake. "You do realize your music knowledge is about five years ahead of mine?" You were thirteen the last time I listened to the radio, he continues mentally, then looks up at the stage, frowning very faintly. "And I wasn't much paying attention to the current stuff at that time, either."

Re: JOIN THE AUDIENCE HERE

[identity profile] courier-gavin.livejournal.com 2005-11-17 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dude, Cheney and Blaire are from, like, the 70's or 80's or something. Disco." Jake shudders again. "But Sugar's... hm. Four years ago maybe? Yeah, okay, see your point on her. What else then?"

Re: JOIN THE AUDIENCE HERE

[identity profile] krycek-rat.livejournal.com 2005-11-17 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
He nudges Jake's knee with his own, snorting. "I did actually try to avoid disco, Jake." Krycek fingers the guitar thoughtfully, lips pursed. "Classic rock is good. What do you like?"

Re: JOIN THE AUDIENCE HERE

[identity profile] courier-gavin.livejournal.com 2005-11-17 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Jake nudges back, then shrugs. "Don't know. Everything. Nothing. Beatles."

[identity profile] krycek-rat.livejournal.com 2005-11-17 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Beatles are alright," Krycek allows. "How about Willie Nelson?" He watches the stage as he thinks, running over lyrics in his head.

Barbossa adjusted the microphones to cut out most of the feedback and then watched the show.

He was quite taken with Faith's poem.
