Ethics Class #5, Friday morning, 8-10am

Tara looks tired but happy as the students come in. She wears a scarf around her neck that doesn't quite cover a greenish-purple bruise.

"Last week we looked at power and responsibility. The first hour is an extension of that. I want you to divide into two groups. If your name has an odd number of letters, you're in Group A." She waves to one side of the classroom to indicate that the group should congregate there. "If your name has an even number of letters," waving to the other side of the classroom, "you're in Group B. Go."

So after they tell you why, you'd punch them in the face? I don't see this ending well for anyone who might have been trying to help you out.

We (as a class, not just you) seem to be losing sight of one of the prof's elements in the scenario. It's a given that this is someone we trust.

Show of hands... how many of us have ever been knocked out by someone we know 'for our own good'? It's kind of the same thing - someone with a better grip on the situation is taking control of it to keep us safe. Now, with the given that this is someone we trust, how is this really all that different?

"Thing is, Shep. Memories make you who you are. They help you make decisions. If someone took mine away, even if they thought they were helping, I'd say they were changing me and I'd be pissed about that. Now it might turn out that they got my permission beforehand. Or it might turn out that if I knew I'd be grateful. But I don't like people making those decisions for me. So whether I trust them or not, when I find out, I'm going to want details. Fast."

Yes. I know. I'm a total hypocrite, Bel.
