MATHS CLASSES: Friday 11.11, FST: 16:00-18:00

Charlie is sitting on his desk. Beside him there's a plate of brownies, a bowl of popcorn and a bowl with kiwis in. He's looking quite pleased with the world.

"Wallace Fennell has detention.

Barbossa is, if the radio is to be believed, a parrot, and will be excused from class until such point that he is no longer a parrot."

"I picked natural numbers. They're all the numbers that are above zero. Also zero. You can count with them," Faith finishes, smiling.

"Squark! Drink up, me hearties!" adds the parrot.

"Awesome, thanks." Faith looks at the bird and shrugs. "Can parrots eat popcorn?" Barbossa hops up and down in response.

"So, yeah, I guess he does." She offers the bird a piece. He takes it enthusiastically, managing to bite her finger. "I hate birds, I've decided."

"I chose Prime numbers because 3 and 7 are my favorite numbers and they are Prime numbers. I think the logic of Prime numbers is neat as I love division as well."

[[A piece of paper is left on the desk at the end of class. It reads:

"An imaginary number is any complex number whose square is a negative real number or zero." It is usually indicated as a multiple of i where i^2=-1. That way you can work with the real numbers and not have to worry about the imaginary part.

Imaginary (or purely imaginary) numbers and don't seem to have any use in our daily lives. When do you ever need to use the square root of -1 after all? They are of use is some fields though. Particularly in a variety of sciences and related areas such as signal processing, control theory, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, and cartography.

It is also interesting to note that, technically, 0 is considered to be a purely imaginary number. It is the only complex number which is both real and purely imaginary.

Some popcorn disappears from the bowl.]]

Chloe glances at Maia. "Well, I chose prime numbers originally, but since that's already been taken care of today, I'll just have to wing this." She pulls out her notes. "Rational numbers are ratios of quotients of two integers, usually written as a/b, with b being any number other than zero. Each rational number can be written in infinite forms, like 1/2 is the same as 2/4 which is the same as 3/6 and so on. The simplest form is when a and b have no common divisors. Every non-zero rational number has exactly one simplest form."
