"This week you get to turn in your scavenger hunt items!" [OOC: Links below]

***

After the scavenger hunt:

Ted seems a little stoned, but he actually hasn't been into anything. He simply hasn't slept and is running on caffeine, sugar and adrenaline alone. What else is new? He's not as lucid as usual. Considering he's not normally very lucid, this may make him unintelligible at times.

"This week we're gonna learn about a most excellent band called 'Spinal Tap'. They're most famous not for their most excellent music, and it is most excellent, but for the fact that their ampliphiers go all the way to 11, so their music is louder. Louder doesn't always mean better, but in the case of Spinal Tap it does. When it comes to heavy metal music, louder is better.

This week's discussion will lead to next week's discussion.. unless I forget by then."

Ted plays some Spinal Tap as an example.

"So today we're gonna discuss how music makes you feel. For me, loud music, the kind of music that, like, makes my ears bleed and the side of my face go numb makes me feel alive.. once I regain consciousness I mean."

This week's discussion question: "How does heavy metal make you feel? What kind of music makes you feel alive?"

Sonia's carrying a shoebox with suspicious holes punched in it. She lifts the lid, quickly wrestles something down to the bottom of the box, and users her free hand to pull out the other items.

1. A clarinet reed. (http://www.rydia.net/grimmart/fandom/reeds.gif)

8. a bag of cranberries (http://www.rydia.net/grimmart/fandom/i-cranberries.jpg)

9. a pair of really old and somewhat musty shoes. (http://www.rydia.net/grimmart/fandom/shoes.jpg)

After she sets the other items out, she lifts the lid on the box again and immediately grabs for something inside. When she pulls her hand out, she's holding a frog (http://www.rydia.net/grimmart/fandom/frog.jpg) picked up outside the dorms right before class.

"Erm...it's for the fourth object. Not a bullfrog, exactly, but it's the closes ve'll find around here."

Before she can get it back inside the box though, the frog wriggles from Sonia's grasp and lands with a light plop on the table. It gives the classroom an odd amphibous eye, then springs to the other side of the room, where it perches under a stack of unused chairs, croaking sullenly.

Xander turns in

2: A jar of salsa from the Emporium.

He points to the plastic terrarium on his desk. "And this is Jeremiah. Who is not a bullfrog, but I hope he'll do for #4. " He keeps a hand protectively on the handle of the travel-tank. "I don't have to actually turn him in, do I? I kinda like the little guy."

[GAH. Not only am I late, I'm not even sure I'm right. This is what I get for sharing the computer with my roommate and not paying much attention to anything. I also apologize to my group for being out of touch.]

I think this should work, sir.

John starts the discussion. "Heavy metal music makes me feel...scattered. There's so much happening, so much going on that I can never keep up and just end up bopping my head along to the music and trying not to head bang. I'm more of a straight rock n' roll fan. Aerosmith, Queen, KISS, you know, the classics. That's my 'roll down the windows, turn the volume up, and let the wind ruffle my hair' music."

"Heavy metal makes me feel...bouncy? Like Rover, in a way. And really in touch with my scissors. The music of Cher makes me feel alive. Really. No, really!"

Callisto removes the hands she clapped over her ears about 3.5 seconds into the first song. "I've been in battles that were less discordant!"

After checking her palms for blood, she continues. "As for what music makes me feel alive, wardrums, always the wardrums the kind of stuff I grew up with I suppose, fast tempo, interesting beat pattern, gaida, chanting, sort of stuff that just makes to want to get up and dance."

"It be a little loud, which I like," Barbossa said, "and I do be likin' the powerful guitar riffs. I could do without most o' the torch songs, though." He scrunched up his face. "As fer what I like, I think a good sea shanty will always be my favorite. Useful fer keepin' time on a ship, and if yer lucky, about a naked wench."

Re: Class Discussion

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I quite like heavy metal, something to mosh to if you're feeling a bit stressed or whatever. I really like synth-pop personally, bands like Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp, they're good to dance to but have meaning full lyrics generally

"It's alright. I'm more of a Bob Marley kind of person. I guess I like the single guitar riffs and not this jumble of drums, guitar and just all around headache-yness."

Re: Class Discussion

I don't like heavy metal very much. It's too loud. I enjoy pop rock like U2.
