Criminal Justice, Class 17

[OOC: Light day today because I have an insane idea for Thursday's class that has been brewing for WEEKS and I can't focus on anything good for today's class. Let's just take this as a day of transition. Class Info Post.]

*The Teacher of the Month The Tick is at the podium as usual. It may be surprising to anyone not at Sunday's memorial service that Lockheed is in the room, occupying the shelf that he had frequently napped on in the past.*

Today's going to be a light day, class. What with everything going on, between the projects and... other things, I thought today would be a good day to open the floor to any questions you might have about Justice, our class in general, where we're going, who we are, or what we're all doing here in class or on Earth!

First things first, though. The project simulations were run in the Danger Shop on Sunday. Most of you were there. I'm sure you'll agree that they went well overall. But if you'd like to talk about where some of them went hilariously wrong, we can discuss that as well. You should have grades by next Tuesday which should give Rory plenty of time to protect me from the nefarious grades!.

And I also have a reading for you to do for Thursday. *Tick gestured to a box full of books* This is a book whose title was never specified by somebody, probably a British guy, one of the leading theorists in the field of Criminal Justice in the somethingth, possibly 19th Century. I'd like you to read the first 50 pages for Thursday and be ready to discuss just what exactly the author was talking about! It's a quick read, very open to interpretation, so it should be fun! Yes, Thursday will involve a lot of strike tags.

Now, the Floor of Knowledge is open to the Custodians of Inquisition! Sweep away the Dust of Ignorance with your Brooms of Questioning!

"You know, if CoyoteJaye hadn't told the babysitting service that the road runner was only doing it to kill himself, it would have worked.

Hey, where's Little Wooden Boy?"

How does one pick out a super hero identity?

"I picked mine by drinking a lot of coffee and letting Major K! talk me into it, for instance," Rory offers.

While we all love Justice, like with every spoon we sometimes spill some of the soup. So is it best to sometimes let a guilty carrot escape or is it better to get spill free spoons where an innocent piece of leek gets eaten?

Cameron nods. "That makes a lot of sense, sir."

"Sir? I have a question regarding the practical application of Justice."

Anakin coughed, trying to translate a story about his work with Obi-Wan into High Metaphor. "Say there is an, um, evil crime syndicate mascarading as a mild-mannered trade federation. They use an Evil Trade Embargo in order to, um, well, Exact Their Revenge against a small planet. If the trade embargo is forcibally stopped using the Starfighters of Righteousness but the evil syndicate is never punished for their deeds, has Justice truly been served?"

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-11-09 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Anakin nodded glumly. "Politics too often seems to thwart the work of Justice where I come from, especially lately. It's frustrating."

Question...

What *is* the sound of one hand clapping? I've always wanted to know that.
