Monday Office Hour

She sits in her office, doodling with a smile on her face. She has her iPod on, earbuds in, and she's jamming out. Bouncing, dancing a bit, lip syncing, and at times singing along.

I, I'm driving black on black
Just got my license back
I got this feeling
in my veins this train is coming off the track
I'll ask polite if the devil
needs a ride
Because the angel on my right ain't hanging out with me
tonight
I'm driving past your house while you were sneaking out
I got the
car door opened up so you can jump in on the run
Your mom don't know that you
were missing
She'd be pissed if she could see the parts of you that I've been
kissing
Screamin'
No, we're never gonna quit
Ain't nothing wrong with it
Just acting like
we're animals
No, no matter where we go
'Cause everybody knows
We're
just a couple of animals

So come on baby, get in
Get in, just get
in
Check out the trouble we're in

You're beside me on the seat
Got
your hand between my knees
And you control how fast we go by just how hard
you wanna squeeze
It's hard to steer when you're breathing in my ear
But I
got both hands on the wheel while you got both hands on my gears
By now, no
doubt that we were heading south
I guess nobody ever taught her not to speak
with a full mouth
'Cause this was it, like flicking on a switch
It felt so
good I almost drove into the ditch
I'm
screamin'

So come on baby, get in
Get in, just
get in
Look at the trouble we're in

We were parked out by the
tracks
We're sitting in the back
And we just started getting busy
When
she whispered "what was that?"
The wind, I think 'cause no one else knows
where we are
And that was when she started screamin'
"That's my dad
outside the car!"
Oh please, the keys, they're not in the ignition
Must
have wound up on the floor while
we were switching our positions
I guess
they knew that she was missing
As I tried to tell her dad it was her mouth
that I was kissing
Screamin'

So come on baby,
get in
We're just a couple of animals
Get in, just get in
Ain't nothing
wrong with it
Check out the trouble we're in
Get in, just get in

[If you want her, you're going to have to startle her.]

Beka smiled, but it almost certainly didn't reach her eyes. "Hey," she said, stepping into the office and closing the door behind her. She scrubbed a hand through her bangs. "Yeah. About that. I'm sorry I didn't stop to see if you were all right."

Frelling surveillance. She'd have told CJ a lot more of the truth if not for that. "Something set him off. I've never seen him like that. He said things to me..." Realizing that this truth she could tell, Beka let the hurt out into her eyes and her voice.

"He's my best friend. I love him, and if he weren't with Phoebe, we'd probably be together. We've said as much. Last night, he was deliberately cruel. Trying to hurt me. He succeeded. But CJ...Bel would never do that to me. Not unless something or someone was messing with him."

Beka gave a tight, angry nod. "I'm speculating. On a lot of facts and personal experience, but still speculating." Her chin came up and she met CJ's gaze. "Crowley," she said firmly.

"We had a run-in not long ago. Bel showed up at the end of it and he and Crowley exchanged words. Bel was hot about it. I suspect he went spoiling for - and got - a fight. And worse."

Beka could hardly contain a snort at that. "Crowley is nothing if not polite," she agreed. "And yet... Remember the zombie fight? Trust me on this. He's not what he seems. And neither, entirely, is Bel."

"Mind if I sit, CJ?" she asked, suddenly tired. "Belthazor is a demon. Anger is natural to him. Usually, his human side is more than strong enough to control it..."

"Bel's a private person. I respect that. If you want to know what's up with him, you have to ask him. Not my story to tell." She met CJ's gaze firmly, clearly, and spoke with compassion. "Belthazor wouldn't hurt a fellow student or teacher no matter how angry he got. That's why I say Crowley is behind this. Talk to Mr. Phale."

An inward wince, and a silent apology, then, "Talk to Tara about Crowley. He's ... far more likely to damage Ten's alliance than Bel."

Beka sighed, relieved, but not entirely. There was much more to do yet today. "CJ, Belthazor will apologize if I have to drag him down here by his...ear...and beat every word out of him."

"He will."

Beka stood. "Actually, I could use to talk to Tara for a minute as well. Would it be all right if I kept you company on the way?"

"Yeah, I just need to chat with her for a few minutes. I need to tell her why I told her to talk to you, otherwise she might not. It's a touchy subject for a lot of people." Me included.
