First Day on the Job

*rover rolls around his new office of Security, squeaky-rubber noises as he squeezes through the small space between the desk and wall, adjusting the stapler on the desk which he eyes suspiciously before it gets nudged into the trash bin.*

*after witnessing the carnage in the fandomhighdorms decides some rules need to be instituted, along with the consequences of breaking them.*

*several failed attempts at writing them later, rover decides to take a roll around the campus to become familiar with the layout.*

*...after shoving the desk out the window*

*...making a note to open the window first next time*

Uncertain as to what had actually happened to his assistant, possibly less worried about last night's memory loss than he ought to have been, Spider was prowling the grounds in search of someone who knew what had happened when....

*hearing a voice echoing up through the now broken window outside a building that was supposed to be empty on the weekend, he rolled out the door at high speed to investigate...mindful of the glass.*

*turn after turn, he bounced along, occasionally bumping into the wall or a row of lockers as he tried to get used to negotiating on the waxed floors until he reached the front doors to the building and bowled through them.*

*around the corner to his now junked desk on the lawn, he is brought up short by the one who was to be under house arrest.*

*he waited, inflating and deflating slowly...watching...*

Deciding that the desk was harmless, Spider stepped back and examined the windows above. He avoided the shards of glass as he did some mental mathematics and concluded that it had fallen from...

"The security office?" A sudden grin curved his lips. "Is it too much to hope that someone murdered our security officer?"

*rover rolled up closer, still skirting around the glass bits in the grass.*

Still grinning cheerfully, Spider turned to continue his walk... and stopped dead in his tracks. "What the fucking hell?" He stuck out a foot and prodded cautiously at the ball.

"You can't possibly be a student," Spider muttered, prodding again. "I'd remember seeing that on the roster. I've seen most of the faculty and the... staff...."

He stepped back, glaring darkly. "You are not the goddamned security officer."

Spider didn't actually stagger, but the impact did rock him back on his heels. "Oh, so that's how it's gonna be, huh?"

No stranger to things that weren't what they seemed, he weighed his options carefully before plastering on an obviously fake smile. "So. You're 'rover', then?"

"So, no audio then. That's a pain in the ass." Spider circled the white sphere slowly, frowning a little. "This place gets more fucked up every day...."

*he jiggled and shuddered.*

"Hmm. Note to self, find a large, pointy stick and keep it around at all times." Spider muttered, watching the thing turn warily. "Better yet, wait for one of the students to try it first."

Deciding that his morning was weird enough without any further help, Spider moved warily away and headed toward the student dorms.
